Default 1988 CRX Suspension vs. 1989 CRX Suspensions

Hey Guys, what are the differences in the suspensions on a 1988 CRX, HF, Si versus 1989 CRX HF, Si and later years. I heard somewhere about for road racing purposes the 1988 suspensions were a little more "twitchy".. Don't know where I heard that just wanted to confirm any differences.?

Thanks,
GP

i think the 88 suspension was built with a certain amount of flex into it that almost acts like a hicus system. I would say go with 89 since there are far more suspension setups available for 89+

well the 88 has the rear shocks like a type r rather than the reat of the hondas it doesnt have a fork it has the circle mount thingy and the crx had rear steering in 88 i have an 88 hatch no rear steering but the shocks and all are different than the rest of the efs and the tranny is diff to 21 spline just another little thing about the 88 its also the lightest no safety supports in the doors and all

» 88's have what Honda called "passive rear steering" which makes them slightly more agile but some owners complained that they didn't like the "twitchiness" feeling of it so it only existed the one year.
Its just an 'expression' of sorts to describe the suspension, there is no steering involved. Your gonna confuse people.

1988: different lower control arm, the shock "drops" in the lower arm, 1989+ U-bracket system.

I have a set of rear tokiko illuminas for a 88 if anyone needs them, my 1st civic was a 88. They have been sitting here collecting dust for 3 years.

So if the 88 rear suspension isn't the hot set-up, are the mounting points the same so an 89+ could be swapped in..??

Gp

Yeah the 89+ will bolt right in. If you are changing go ahead and get the rear disks setup off of a 90 or 91.
