Default [CRX w/B20vtec BUILD THREAD]

Hey HT. Here we go again. The cycle continues. I bought a new car yesterday, and this marks the start of my build.

Plans
-gut and restore CRX with new carpets, door panels, seats, steering wheel (basically everything)
-strip exterior to bare metal, disassemble all removable parts, prep and paint (w/bodywork)
-drop in b20v built motor (pistons/rods/head etc - naturally aspirated)
-own cleanest and fastest CRX on the island
-try not to total the car

Anyways f*ck the foreplay, here are the pictures...

The car as I bought it, the BEFORE pictures.

Take note of the wicked playground behind the car. Playgrounds like that one promote instances of extreme manliness from a young age. I am one of the examples..

These rims will never see new tires. By the time this tread is gone, Enkei RPF1 rims will replace them with Kumho Ecsta rubber.

Evidence of a really sh!tty body kit with inferior paint jobs.

Previous colors the car may have been at one time.

This badge will be coming off. No need to be flashy or advertise anything under the hood.

Cheap egay clear corners will be replaced with JDM amber. All exterior lights will be smoked black for non-reflectivity.

I will be eating lots of this to afford all of the parts I will need.

Soiled carpets and an ECU unbolted and sliding around on the floor. This is going to be a large project...

More soiled carpets, worn out pedals, and wires hanging everywhere.

Screws missing from all kinds of holes..

Interior may need new door panels.

I got a free block of wood with my car!

Missing rear window wiper arm...

Some rust starting around one trunklid hinge.

Doors each sag about 3/4" too low on the hinges..

Ghetto hood pins

Not to mention the skeleton of the hood structure has been cut out underneath (I'm guessing someone had a large motor in this car during it's lifetime.)

A free whale ***** comes pre-installed. It will be replaced with an AEM CAI.

The block stamp says D16Z6, and there is a VTEC solenoid on the head, but it is not hooked up to anything. Hmmm. Luckily the whole motor comes out and I don't have to deal with nightmares like figuring this out...

The distributor has been modified for some reason, and its not the right one for this motor.

The bolt holes don't even line up...

I don't even....

Some old DC sports headers.. Also going into the dumpster.

Back to the trashed interior...

Seats need to be replaced with some lightweight Sparco CF seats.

Looks like I got a free sealed pen!s catheter in the glovebox!

Missing roof glass.. I don't understand.

More bent roof parts, I guess someone broke into the car through the moonroof.

Looks like the roof was painted with a brush... or sanded with 60grit sandpaper prior to paint.

Seatbelt winders wear out, seatbelts don't roll up, get slammed in the door, and punch holes in the door panels. Lovely.

The previous owner put an airtight bug seal over the hole with duct tape. Uh.....

This is an accord transmission. It serves no purpose being here, I just wanted to post a picture of an accord transmission. So here it is. Look at the accord transmission. It's just sitting there.

I started peeling off the bodykit panels, I never realized how heavy body panels were.

They were held on by a nice collection of wood screws.

This is what I found underneath. Fucccccccccckk.

I dug deeper.

After finding sh!te like this I have decided to strip every body panel to bare metal and re-do any bodywork myself. I want to know of any structural weaknesses before I get my motor near this car.

Why are there large holes randomly cut in the front bumper? Do I even want to know?

This car is obviously more of a project than I thought it would be. I may just junkyard new doors to save some headaches.

If you made it through this far - here are the details of the car.

Motor has 80k on it (I don't trust the previous seller as far as I could throw him, and he was pretty big.)
Chassis odometer says 213k
Paid 1500 for the car
It starts and runs fine as it is, so the engine bay will not be touched until the exterior/interior are complete.
I may do a wire tuck upon b20v reinstall.
The b20v is currently running in my other honda, the build-thread is https://honda-tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2789429.

Stay tuned fvckers, because this is going to take some time.

Jesus! You are a brave man for taking this on. I don't mean to be a dick, but $1500 seems like a lot for this heap. But I guess there's no turning back now, so good luck on this project and can't wait to see it restored

I would love to have a B20V to put into my Rex! Probably easier and cheaper to just put a B18 from an Integra for me though. I'm on the other side of your situation though, in terms of body/engine. The body has been restored, with an old D16Z6 waiting to be swapped.

I'm so glad you've decided to restore this instead of rice it to oblivion (even though it was already halfway there). And that Accord transmission. There it is. A transmission. For an Accord. Right there.

Thanks for the shouts homies.

Starts and runs fine..

The motor is too small and too slow. B20v swap imminent, probably before further driving.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KjHaxgAn2c[/youtube]

Door before..

Door after some digging.. time for new carbon fiber doors. Estimation: 30% of total door weight is bodyfiller. These things are important on the .0823% of cars on the road today that weigh less than 2000lbs.

One panel cleaned up, stripped and primed for now, 902329874298561 to go.

And yeh, that accord transmission was pretty cool. It was just sitting there, chillin. It was like whuddup I'm an accord transmission, how's it goin. Now it's here.

More bodywork tomorrow.

I think that is unquestionably an Accord transmission, and I have concluded that it is, indeed, there.

thanks for the shouts. CRX was re-sold because it was too far gone as a project.

I am taking a plane to other island to go find new CRX to build. These cars are too rare out here.

Yeah that was a cool transmission. More pics available upon request.

Good luck on your build! EF's are a magical thing to restore.

Least you can say, "Built Not Bought" (JDM Motto)

It takes driving and the passion for your car to a whole new level that no one else understands because you redid the whole car inside and out. Makes you feel... Accomplished. Lol

Speech is over.

yeh accomplished is the word i would use to describe it..

well this car was too much work i sold it months ago and bought a clean 88 w/145k miles on the chassis.

here is the b20v CRX build i'm currently working on - the b20v should be going in next week when the mounts arrive. chassis is fully restored.

Lot of work ahead but it'll be worth it. We need to resurrect these beat down, falling apart, absolutely trashed CRX's before they're all gone.

HA! For a second I thought this was your current thread and it freaked me out a little, like I got caught in some kind of Doc Brown time slip or something.

...I'm okay now.
