Default Yonaka Exhaust Review: Almost Great

I recently purchased "Yonaka 96-00 Honda Civic EK Catback Exhaust Hatchback 3DR 2.5" Pipe 4.25" Tip HB" blah blah blah, I know it's a cheap exhaust system, that's not what bothers me. It says 2.5" piping, correct? Then WHAT IN THE **** IS THIS:


It's a 2.5" to stock sized piping step-down. Why would you have this? I'm running a 2.5" test pipe, silly ******* me thinking that if I ordered a 2.5" outlet header, a 2.5" test pipe, and a 2.5" exhaust, that they would all fit together! **** me, right?

Before everyone else gets their panties in a wad, (I'm lookin' at you, grumblemarc lol) I KNOW no-name cheap ebay stuff is...well, no-name cheap ebay stuff. But how ******* difficult is it to either:

1. SAY it narrows to stock diameter in the description!

or

2. DON'T make it narrow to stock diameter!

Seriously. It's like the whole world is getting stupider and ******* my **** up because everyone has to pander to the lowest common denominator. They probably got tons of complaints from every JDM ricer civic pissant F&F wannabe saying "I ORD3RED THIS EXHOST 4 MY EK9 (it's not, it's a goddamn EJ6 you fucknut) AN NOW IT DONT FIT!!1!ONE" so they had to change the front to pacify all the dumb *****, leaving ME with an exhaust that doesn't fit!


TL:DR;

The Yonaka 2.5" is not a true 2.5". It only fits to a stock catalytic converter.

Chop it off and weld a new flange on it to fix the issue though. If you don't weld an exhaust shop can fix it up for you for less than $50

Beware... a little dramatic aren't we? I guess you didn't do your research before hand to know that it isn't a 2.5" exhaust at all. More like 2.36" or 60mm. Cut it off and weld piping to fit your 2.5" test pipe.

Thanks guys, I know how to fix it, it just sucks that it won't bolt up like I thought it would. I hate "rigging" things, and a cut and welded exhaust because it won't bolt up feels rigged to me.

Maybe it's just me but the description seems correct.
Yonaka 96-00 Honda Civic EK Catback Exhaust Hatchback 3DR 2.5" Pipe 4.25"

It says catback not test pipe back. Thus it should connect to a stock cat which it does.

... A test pipe REPLACES the cat. I could have gotten a 2.5" high flow cat and it would have been the same issue.

I'll grant you that I should have studied the pictures harder to see the part where it steps down.
I knew it was an ebay part, but I had looked up tons of Yonaka exhaust reviews on this forum and others, and not a single person mentioned this.
Not a lot of people are buying this as an actual PERFORMANCE part, I get it. They want their car louder and shinier. I made this post as a warning to other
people like me, at least this info is out there instead of someone making the same (admittedly foolish) mistake I did.

Thanks everyone for saying I can cut and weld it. No, really? You're saying I can cut up the brand new exhaust I just bought and customize it to fit my car? Hmmm...interesting.

I suppose if I wanted to cut and weld parts, I would have just gone to a shop and had them make me an exhaust instead of buying one! Anyway, the purpose of this review
wasn't to have everyone agree with me, but to vent a little and put the information out there so someone else who doesn't look at it hard enough won't make the same mistake.

And yes, looking back on my post, it does seem a little dramatic. I was angry and didn't want to pay someone another $50 to cut up a brand new exhaust. I'm over $4000 into my LS/VTEC
engine build, I'm in the home stretch, money is tight, and it's a race to see what happens first: my leaking head gasket finally blowing or me getting this swap done and running.

The reason I bought mine was because I knew I was going to modify it. I posted in a review with pics of your complaint, which wasn't a big deal to me because I had a header going straight to the exhaust. No cat or test pipe. I also added a Dynomax 24" resonator to make even more quite. For the money, it's been a great exhaust.

That's pretty much any car anymore.

Guys that restore the old classics drop 100,000 grand and can only sell them for 60 grand. It's the nature of the beast.

I plan on doing the same thing with my two EH2 hatchbacks. I figure I drop 10 grand into each car and they should be brand new cars without having to shell out 30,000 plus to have the new car look and feel.

Then again, I plan on keeping these cars for a good long time.

That's weird man. I bought one for my 96-00 coupe and loved it! Mine didn't step down like that. I've since then swapped it onto my eg sedan. After 20k miles it still sounds good

2.5" the whole way back, and bolted right up to my Blackworks 2.5" test pipe.

Sounded nice, it's a shame that cheap eBay piece of **** tore itself apart within a year. Tore at each hangar.

Don't waste your money.

how low are ya?? I have had mine for over 5 years without an issue and I only planned on keeping it for a year or two since now I'm boosted... and still rocking a Yonaka. All I hear is motor and turbo spool!

when I first installed my 2.5" cat-back (home built) I made a temporary adapter to the stock, 2-bolt flange. If I hadn't necked it down there would be nowhere for the spring bolts to fit. even necked down it was a tight fit. a modified header collector with three bolt flange set it right.

I'm not very low, and the damage did not come from bottoming out the exhaust.

The damage is from the thin, cheap, Chinese steel tearing where the Chinese slave laborer did a poor job welding the hangers on, likely overheating the metal in those spots.
