I have the "common" crack on my exhaust manifold starting from the o2 sensor bung, and it is throwing a cel code 41 (from my H-T research i am 99% sure this is causing the problem). Has anyone had any success getting this crack welded or am I SOL and going to have to spend $300 on a new one?

If you did get it welded with success what is the going rate to get this done?

You can get a quality aftermarket exhaust manifold that will bolt back up to your OEM CAT for way less than $300. Welding parts that have been casted is tough. Especially if its all rusty and flaking,

He cant get a aftermarket header or exhaust manifold the y7 has it built onto it. he can buy a EX header and aftermarket cat for a ex. then you will need to modify ur exhaust to fit that. any exhaust shot could do this easily and cheap maybe 50-60 bux. or buy a ex exhaust. on ebay they have full aftermarket EX systems you can work with for 170-200 on ebay. using a hi flow or stock ex cat would not make it raspy and also having a bigger resonator can get rid of the raspy sound like using a test pipe and short resonator.also you will need to cut ur harness open and extend ur second O2 sensor because it will be under the car now. they make extension harness's on ebay. or just buy another oEM for 170 on ebay.

I would first try and weld the stock one, or find a 96-00 ex header/cat and exhuast to replace it with.

^ I think that was assumed...at least I guess that knowledge would have been had.

All of the ebay headers are just DC replicas, and I've seen very good results long-term on these...dependant on the seller.

An ebay header, and hi-flow cat, with exhaust shop costs would still run less than 300, and set you up to be more flexible in the future.

*edit* Just saw Cali on there...good luck with that lol.

Just had the same issue. What I ended up doing was getting eBay headers. ($50.00) I picked up a new B pipe ($61.48) and Walker cat ($105.00) from my local Advance Autos. Total cost around $250 for everything. The Walker cat also came with a 5 year warranty.

If you can find someone that knows how to weld cast iron you might get away with it. I know there are guys that have welded them, but I don't know how well they held up.

It's a lot of hassle to replace the header and get a new cat etc. I would start with a weld and see how that lasts. If it doesn't then resort to getting a CARB header and catalytic converter.

I just had to replace my cat because the last owner welded the mannifold and it just cracked again and failed emissions.Im pretty sure you cant move your cat from the stock location so you cant buy a header and high flow cats are illegal here anyways.

Yes he can, The exhaust manifold is bolted to the CAT. Theyre separate pieces. You can buy a stock replacement exhaust manifold without the CAT

I would love to switch to an aftermarket header/cat setup but as far as i know it wont pass smog. looks like im gonna have to call around and find a welder.

You can still pass smog. A dc header will be fine, however you are on the hook for a cali legal cat, and you would still need a exhuast.

Cali is difficult, but there are ways around the rules, while still keeping it legal.

hmm that sounds interesting. im gonna look into going with a header setup (like a y8). i hate the y7 manifold/cat setup

well fellas, i got it welded for $30 and got a new o2 sensor and the light is gone. plus no more burning fuel smell. thanks for all your help fellas!!
