its winter people usually use heaters well not me. this smell from my vents that smells like dirty gym clothes that have been washed for weeks.
it doesn't always smell say i drive for an hour that **** will just smell half the time and its is not constant i goes and comes. so for now to closed the 2 vents i could and put it to vent to the floor. this is extremely embarrassing and any help would be appreciated

Most likely. If you smoke in the car, that can cause that nasty smell too.

My ex-girlfriend poured milk in the vents above my hood... it got into the heating/cooling duct-work. Smelled like rotten-feet forever!! Eventually ended-up replacing all the duct-work.. Hope that isnt what happened to you.

if u run ur a/c during the summer time and not properly blow out the moisture it would cause that (mildew built up) smell. i make it a habit to run the fan on with out the a/c about 1/4 of a mile before i get there.

that's a mold build up on ur vents.

So do you just take a bottle of lysol and pour it down the vents where the wiper blades are? How much should you use?

My friends tells me my heat smells like a wet dog.....but as long as im warm...i could give a **** less about me coming out everytime reaking like "wet dog"..its better than hypothermia. ..but yea...if somebody knows something they did, that worked...i just might try it out....

if you remove the glove box you will see the blower, on that foam **** just spray tons of cleaner, fabreeze, whatever and it should help out. im bout to do it on mines. ex owner was a smoker.. **** never again!!

Funny you mention that. I did that to mine yesterday. I sprayed some on the mesh part of the blower and sprayed a little with the fan on without the thingy closed so it can carry the fabreeze as far up the air ducts. I need to spray more to get the whole air ducts fresh.

After you get the smell out, keep the fan on, even at the lowest setting. This keeps air moving and minimizes the settling of particles.

My vents have never smelled bad.

Luckly I don't have this problem with my Si, but I did have it with my Saturn SC2. Apparently the car was a Florida flood victim, and the air smelled worse than a wet dog that had been dead for a few weeks. I turned the air on full tilt to fresh air, then sprayed fabreeze into the air intake for the heater. I emptied a quarter bottle of the stuff spraying it in there. After it kind of stopped smelling, I switched it over to recirculating and left it going for a while. It took the smell away for a few weeks, and when it came back, it was noticibly less bad. After a few more repeats of this treatment, the stink was gone. I would be wary of putting lysol in my air ducts, but to each his own. In my experience, lysol permanently scents any plastic it comes in contact with. If you like the smell of lysol, go for it. I know I don't, and the febreeze worked for me. As for what it is.... I really never figured it out for sure. My best guess was that the water got in, collected somewhere in the bowels of the system, mildewed, and that was the stink..... it partially going away after it had been on for a while seemed to make sense, as it would blow most of the stink out. Good luck on it.
