Default Will a bad heater core cause the engine to overheat?

curious about this one....
may have been the cause of my old engines problems...want to be sure that same problem does not persist with my new swap...

If the heater core is leaking then yes it will cause the car to overheat because the cooling system will slowly lose all the coolant. You can bypass the heater core, but you won't have heat in the winter time. It's a temporary fix if you don't have the time or money to fix it.

gotcha, where will the coolent be leaking - on the inside or outside?

Also, I do live in Arizona and we rarely use our heatrers here...
maybe I should just bypass it for now if it turns out to be the problem - is that a pain in the ***?

If its leaking you will smell antifreeze inside ur car. It's a major pain to replace to, you have to pull the whole dash out. Just bypass it if you dont use your heat.

I did a heater core bypass cause the collant was leaking into my carpet and the car would over heat but it still seems to over heat does anyone know why??

Well for starters, don't bump a 10 year old thread. Ever. Just don't do it.

The overheating obviously wasn't being caused by your heater core. You have a leak somewhere else. Start finding it.
