bearings in the alternator might also be bad, i've had that happen to cars at work and they whine exactly like you described...can you still hear the noise at idle?

ok grab a long screw driver or a long ratchet extension and use it as a stethoscope...put one end of it on the alternator (not on the pulley itself obviously because the car will be running) and you should be able to hear it if that is it....if not then try the A/C compressor too.
hope that helps.

from one tech to another.. help explain this (it does have to do with this post and sorry for steeling your thread.. dont worry ill give it back) 92 hatch with a new b16a from hmotors.. ok in normal driving the cars fine.... but when i get on it like 50-100% throttle i hear a slight wining noise from the engine bay then after acceleration the car boggs around 10-35% throttle and will stay like that untill i reprime the fuel system (as in shut the car off then kick on the pump) any ideas? mine was fule pressure but it seems fine im gonna check the fpr next but whats you thought on this matter.... oh and to contribute to the post here... mister OP sounds like you need to rebuild your alternator

nope don't believe its loosing any coolant...
damn sounds like it could be a lot of things. could a power steering belt being loose cause that? and yes sounds kinda like i have super charger. it was too cold and i was too lazy to go out and stick a long extention to find out what it is lol. but i will asap. so i just put the extention on the alternator/a/c compressor/power steering pump/ and put my ears next to it to find out where exactly its coming from?

alright i checked with a stephoscope today in my mechanics class, and it seems to becoming from the A/C compressor. at first it sounded like it was the power steering pump, but we took the belt off and it still made the noise.
so its getting pretty cold now and i wont be using the A/C anytime soon, do you guys recommend me to just take the A/C belt off so it wont continue spinning the A/C compressor pulley? then when summer time put it back in and fix it or w/e then?
cause really it looks like a bitch to get that thing swapped out and i prefer doing it in the summer.

I replaced the ac compressor, receiver and dryer and my car makes a noice seemingly from the timing belt cover area. The belt is new and the wp is also new. The other belts are all new...I cannot tell if it is an alternator bearing or PS bearing but I hear it at idle and as I drive on the road...very frustrating because I adjusted the valves two weeks ago and the car is very smooth but has this stupid noise.
