where to buy a built D- series motor?
like said above.... i just bought a 93 civic dx hatch from a friend but with no motor.
I first decided on a B16a but now have a change of mind. Im planning to go with a d-series instead and turbo it. My goal is to try to run low 13 et.
Well i just want to know if anyone could help me find a D16a, D16z, D16y - it dont matter if it stock or fully built. IF you know any websites that sell D-series motor post it up .. thanks.
And last question..
what is the best setup for D-series NA, Turbo or NOS?
how much hp would it make and how fast 1/4???

i've done all of those and trust me it is not worth it, get a swap and go from there. even @ 7 psi i was just keeping up with GSR's it is not worth the money. all the money i've spent on my D i could of had a freikin K swap ask me about my set-ups if your curious but this is from experience

He is right...I had a d16y7 all built up and ran mid 14's. I got fed up, sold it, and now I have JDM B18C type r. You don't need to spend that much, but a B16 or B18 will kick *** if you use the money from your d series (and a little more $). It will be well worth it.

Re: where to buy a built D- series motor? (peiku)
with a built motor running 14's i think that maybe something was wrong, built d and turbo run in the 12's , its totally worth it, 300 hp = built block, custom kit, hondata, stick with the d, b16a isn't that much better. too many d haters here, they are a good engine

i did not even see the post before. no, both of you are wrong. a built d16y7 and mid 14's? i ran 14.2 on street tires before i put on my dh-racing head. i only had 179whp. why spend more than me just to run slower than me?

Re: where to buy a built D- series motor? (peiku)
Well thanks guy for all the helpful info. I appreciate your time. I know everyone have their own view between D and B series motor. But I do plan on going with a D series for my lil hatch. It doesnt matter much with me cause it a daily driven car. Im planning to keep it stock looking and if its not fast enough I'll go NOS or Turbo.
I've seen many d-series turbo or nos go 12 sec-13 sec at the track and always want to try it but never got a chance to do it. Because I have my CRX- GSR turbo. I have put to much in my CRX and with the theif always trying to jack it I pretty much just garage it. And now with the lil hatch i could mess around with it with a nice built d-series. I think it be fun. Well again thanks.

Re: where to buy a built D- series motor? (SOHC123)
just depends on your budget, i'm saving up for a turbo right now which i said i was saving up for a swap but once i save up 1200 or so i bet i'm just going to spend it on a custom kit

Kind of an obvious option, but one that I went with, is this websites classifieds. You can find some good deals if you are willing to buy from a private party, and don't mind used parts. I had sourced my d16z6 from a guy in the classifieds, and bought new pistons and rods for it, from vendors on this site and got some pretty good deals overall. There is some risk of course when dealing person to person. Good luck with you project.

that's it 200 hp B series?
D series = cheap to replace, cheaper to build, and a lot of fun eatin' a b series' ***!

This is a great thread. I'm building my d16a6. I was thinking of getting a skunk2 adjustable cam gear, is it worth the money??
Edit: Is a Mini me with a Vtec head worth the trouble and money?

Re: where to buy a built D- series motor? (D16.BEYOTCH!)
You shouldn't need a built d series for 13's if you wanna go turbo. Stock internals are pretty resiliant, just need the proper tuning.

Something for you all to think about...
Instead of doing a built D series with turbo...
b18bek (the ignorant swap ****) did this setup with a completely stock LS motor: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=718123
323 WHP 270 WTQ

Nice, Charlie told me how much hp you made before. I'm hoping for 180 at the wheels.

let me see......$3500 for a gsr swap - mid 14, maybe low 14's with slicks or $3500 for a turbo dseries - low 13's knocking on 12's. hhmmmm..........some people just dont get it. for the same amount of money, boosted dseries will always be faster than a bseries. ls/vtec w/ high compression is the exception, but who would want to spin the motor up that high on stock valvetrain/internals to make the same amount as a boosted dseries. i can go on all day. oh yeah stolen parts dont count.

very true. but to most of us on this forum i think if ur eventually wants to go faster than the low 13's and 12's a b-series is better off in the long run. but if u just want to stay with the $3500 and ur done with ur car than the d-series is worth it. but in the end we are never satisfied with wat we got and want to go faster. its all up to u wat u want.
