Default What's a 100K service include?

My stepbrother has a 1995 EX coupe. (1.6L SOHC VTEC) A couple days ago, he called me to help him because his car wouldn't start.

Upon arrival, I tried several things...

Turn key on and off. (To hear the fuel pump whirr for a few secconds.)

Remove one spark plug wire and put it next to the valve cover. (To check ignition system.)

Remove spark plugs and crank. (To check for flooding.)

When I pulled the spark plugs, the gap on them was horrendous. I could EASILY slide a NICKEL between the electrodes. The center electrode was almost totally burned away on some of them. They were standard NGK's... I forget the part number.

The car has 109K miles. Recently, he took it to a dealership for the 100K service. (It was between 99 and 102K miles. He took it to a dealership in Bethesda Maryland.)

Stuff that WAS NOT replaced:

Air filter
Spark plugs
Plug wires
Distributor cap and rotor
Fuel filter (Based on appearance. Not totally sure on that though.)

I tapped the electrodes closer together just to get him through the week. I'll work on it Sunday.

So... what all does a 100K service include? Oil change? What else? They looked at the car, and that's about it...

pretty much all they do is check stuff. i believe that they adjust the e-brake, and a few other things but nothing ,uch. they should have changed the air filter, and cap and rotor, and plugs. i think that tune ups are a waste; tune ups can be done by anyone with half a brain, but thats just one mans opinion. sorry to say but u probably got ripped.

at 100K I think they check everything under the hood from hoses and belts to pumps and boots and some gaskets too...checks of all fluids, fuel system, cooling, charging, sparks and wires, dist. cap and rotor replacement, more too

Just for the info, a regular service at 100,000 miles is an oil and filter change.
Thats it.....Read your owners manual...
Almost every Honda and Acura out there have major services every 30,000
miles. Now when he gets to 105,000 there will be a medium sizes service that
should include a coolant change. Otherwise the plug chage, rotor button,
fuel filter, air filter, brake fluid, etc....Every 30.000 miles should be standard.
Of course the timing belt replacement at 90,000....and maybe a water pump
depending on your location.

It's not my car... Shops don't touch my car, much less the dealer...

There are only two times the delaer will ever touch the car while it's titled in my name:

When I am buying the car.
When I am selling/trading the car.

And those accompany a title transfer, so they don't really count.

(I'm not kidding... I'll take the wheels off and drive them up to the tire shop when I need tires... I'll do my own alignments at the shop I used to work at after hours when the cool manager is in. A timing belt or a clutch can be done by anyone iwht half a brain... Although on my first clutch job, I put the clutch disk on backwards...)

But I digress...

I don't have the manual for my car... Don't need it, as I do my own maintenance schedule, which is far tighter than the manufacturers...

Oil changes 5k miles (At the most... Usually 2.5-3K)

Tune-Up (Includes Spark Plugs, Plug wires, Distirbutor Cap and rotor, Fuel and air filters, and PCV valve... Adjust ignition timing and valve/rocker arm clearance) Annually = About 15-25K miles

Coolant flush - Annually
Tranny Oil change - Annually
Timing belt/Water pump - 60K Miles, Although I have never owned a car long enough to do two...

Everything else, as needed...

I'll do the tune-up (My style, See above... None of this shitty Spark plug change only.) this Sunday.
