What motor? and vtec-e to vtec?? possible??
hey guys i need some help.. i am lookin to buy this car and i need to know if i can put a single vtec head on it. its a vtec-e.. i am not 100% positive what engine it is tho, heres our convo
ME: it should be a D15/6
ME: then z6,y7 etc
HER: 115-hp 1.6-liter sohc 16v VTEC 4-cyl.
HER: d15z
ME: then it should be a D16Y5
ME: is it a VTEC-E?
HER: yep
can i put a vtec head on either one of those? which engine is it most likely? and is it worth puttin a vtec head on since its vtec-e now?

shes going against her own word. first its s 115 hp 1.6 liter .. then its a d15 1.5? err no. she doesnt know what the hell she is talking aboiut obviously. have her read the block code to you.
either way, whether its a HX d16y5..or a VX d15z1m, you can do a mini me sohc vtec head swap.

you can put an SOHC VTEC head on any d-series motor (with the exception of the 8 valve CX)...regardless of what it is...
but yeah...
1.6 liter 115 HP SOHC VTEC = HX
d15z1 = VX
she's fucked up in the head

is the block any differant since its vtec-e? or the ECU? Wiring Harness? i dont know anything about vtec-e.. so i am kinda in the dark, can anyone shine some light on vtec-e's?

do a search, itll help u a lot.
the block casting and internals are usually the same except pistons with the HX motor. d series 1.6L internals are interchangable.
the d15z block is like a jdm sohc vtec d15b block. it has different rods (and pistons of course) then a normal non vtec 1.5L d series.
these vtec- e ecu's whether obd1 or obd2 from the vx and hx are different. the e in vtec-e is for economy. its not a performance addition. its basically just a lean burn motor, which is why it gets such good gas mileage, in addition to their punk *** long geared trannies, .
wiring harness between hx and vx being used for a sohc vtec conversion should be straight forward. im not sure.

so i would have to change the ECU so that the fuel curve would change for vtec and to have vtec to kick in, is the harness the same? what head would you suggest?

the ecu's are totally different. vtec is for performance, vtec-e for lean burn. the vtec- e ecu's are not performanc based so yes to get potential from a vtec conversion that ecu would be need to be junked o reprogrammed. do some reading on vtec-e. i think vtec-e engages at like 2k-3k rpm anyway.

Hold on guys, before you jump on swapping the head, is it really a good idea with a VX engine? After having a few conversations with Spade via IM, he helped me with calculating the CR of a VX with z6 head. Unless the math is incorrect (or the CR calculators math), it seems that the z1/z6 combo would net a 7:1 CR. I wonder how much power if any you would gain from this?
