I'd use Pennzoil Synchromesh. I used that before I switched to Honda MTF and it was so much better. Bad switch...

I honestly didn't notice much difference at all between Honda MTF and the Penzoil.

i wouldnt recommend this... i would use honda mtf... many people will say honda mtf is the same as regular 10/30 oil but i will never agree with this... i have a vx and when i first got the car it would grind 2nd... i started putting honda mtf in there and prob 2 changes later it stopped and never came back... then i swapped my tranny out for a y8... i put my old tranny on a friends cx and just used regular 10/30 oil cause he didnt want to spend $10 on 2 qts... well the grind is back now

well considering i am a honda tech and read the service manuals over and over again i would say that you would be fine.

I would stay away from Honda MTF, I use BG syncroshift II in my y21.

Hahaha..... God what shitty advice . Honda MTF is really good stuff. People always say to us syncromesh, syncroshift, etc. but all that **** is for already screwed up trannies. If it shifts and rides fine then stick with Honda MTF and you'll never have a problem. When I first swapped my Si tranny in my Dx it shifted like **** on a stick, but never ground in any gear. After 2 months of driving with the Honda MTF it shifts smooth and rides real nice. I am going to do a tranny oil change next weekend to get out all the old **** the old owner used in it.

Maybe you should try some Honda MTF at the track, after hours and hours of hard lapping and see if Honda cheap *** fluid would hold up, a friend of mine works at Honda told me that Honda MTF is same as regular engine oil(forgot what grade tho)
I've tried tons of tranny fluids, now I use AMSOIL MTF, cheaper than Honda MTF and shift so much smoother, I can afford to change often.
Hey its your tranny, do whatever you like with it, not everything from Honda are top quality, its like not too many ppl use Honda engine oil and brake fluid, why? coz they suck.

graffffeeener is right. 5W-30 will work if you are in a pinch.

However, I would put Honda MTF in my tranny if I were you.

Until somebody shows me quantitative data proving that Honda MTF and its motor oil are equivalent I will not believe it.

If you are road racing or putting your drivetrain under an unusual amount of stress you may want to consider something "better".

thats total crap... if there was no difference then why package it in a different bottle... and if it was the same then they would give us 5w30 or 10w30 (whichever you think it is) oil when we do tranny services ... if honda's stuff is cheap *** then what reflection does that have on you?... you do own a honda... right??

Pennzoil-Quaker State Synchromesh is a unique transmission and transaxle fluid that is not API "GL" rated. It has an approximate gear oil grade of about SAE 80W

i seriously doubt that you are supposed to be putting 80w in a honda tranny.... i did that but i put 60w gear oil in... thanks kragen.. when i just started working on my car 6 years ago... well needless to say.. that tranny grenaded on me 5 months down the road.. al the bearings went to ****...

just use honda mtf... i switched from 5-30 to honda mtf.. tranny shifts soo much nicer now no grinds or nothing when i speed shift..

I just bought a b16a and my tranny is y21 and my friend said that there was blue oil on da bac on the tranny and all of them look at me saying you mite have a built transmision but they said da only way imma find out when I drive my axles going to sound like there breaking so can someone tell me wat kind of oil I should put and it's a LSD btw

If the current fluid is blue it's probably Redline shockproof AKA Blue Bearsnot.

You can keep running that or something like Torco MTF.
