what does the iat sensor do?
today i was checking my sensors because i had a fluncuating idle and my engine does a sort of stall and sputters. i replaced the tps sensor and put it to specs. I cleaned the iacv. I checked the map and the iat. The map is working fine except the iat. i checked it with voltmeter at 20dc's and it gave a 1.89-2.00. Is this bad? I want to make sure i checked it right. I tapped the + needle to the red wire and the -needle to the green wire. I checked my haynes book and it said that the voltage should be between 3.5-5.5 is this correct or am i wrong. Here it goes with my stupid ? what does the iat do?

The IAT tells the ECU how hot the coolant is...duh.
C'mon now - IAT - intake air temperature - not that hard. Because Honda's use a Speed-Denisty type of fuel injection system, the volume of air entering the engine is not directly measured, as it is in a MAF based car. The temp of the air must be known to calculate this volume.
Temp/Voltage:
60*/3.35v
70*/3.08v
80*/2.81v
You can also use the ECT sensor as a reference value to compare to the IAT when the engine has been allowed to sit overnight. They share the same output characteristics.
