Shifting Techniques
Just looking for some advice on shifting for my car, I don't know where to post this topic so I figured I'd just post it in the section that matches my car.
But anyway I'm just looking for advice on some of the better ways to shift and down shift and what ways hurt your engine/what ways are better for the engine. I've heard of techniques like double clutching, granny shifting or w/e its called, and just shifting... I don't know lol

Re: FV-QR (Eran)
i like to rev match on the downshift, makes it much smoother, and also easier if the light goes green when not expected. shift normal on the up shift, if ya really wanted to get crazy no lift on the clutch when racing, but it is hell on the clutch so i wouldnt recomend that

"smooth," "fast," and "normal" don't all go together. if it's smooth and normal, it's probably close to stock and it shouldn't be fast (the shifting, that is). if it's fast and smooth, it's not stock so that's not normal. and if it's fast and normal, you better be good for it to be smooth.

"power shifting" will go bangbros.com on your synchros. Try to be as smooth as possible, and treat your tranny like if you were expecting it to break any instant, lol, make her last.
One golden rule is. . try to keep your racing to real races. In other words, don't race your buddy on some trashy stock tercel just because his exhaust blew a hole and it sounds loud. Race when its in your category. Another thing, take her to the track. Timeslips are your best bet into finding what shifting produces best results.

in my opinion, you had better be good to be racing period... or at least if you are trying to become good a proper balance of smooth, fast, and normal (which by normal i mean no power shifting or fancy clutchwork) should be your goal

Ideally you should be good, yes, but plenty of people "race" and aren't good. That's part of the reason why there are so many threads on ht about transmission problems.

I'm not bragging or anything, but rather saying if I can, anyone can. It makes cornering so much more predictable. Once you get the feel of it pretty well and learn your gear ratios, it makes the twisties way more fun!

yeeaaah, heal and toe is weird when you first think about it. but after practicing from time to time on the open road. i pretty much do it daily now. its really rewarding when you do it right.
