Vtec engage poor power and noise.
Well, 1st I don't know how to start this thread. Especially the Title. Could be a hundred of threads talking about this. But still open this tread to get the problem solve. Alright, my b16a engine got some serious problem just about yesterday. When I hit my vtec engage point 5800rpm where that is my piggyback Field Boxer VTEC Controller setting. The noise of loud vtec begin....then the sound become faded(like it won't push further)The power that generate from Vtec drop not as powerful like used to be. But day before yesterday, I just try something might crazy that is I set Field Boxer VTEC controller by adding Max fuel 30% start from 6000rpm to 8000rpm. Then When I hit vtec to about 8500rpm I saw I my back there some back smoke which is Fuel rich. I tried only once for this later I turn back the setting to 0. Then yesterday When I rev to hit VTEC where my setting all to normal that I used to set. The noise and the power that I describe above occur. I can't figure out what is this cause. Some say could timing belt and oil level. While my oil level is optimum (full level, just top up).If i drive normal without hitting VTEC is fine and idle work normal. Just the VTEC engage with poor noise and performance. Thank you

Re: Vtec engage poor power and noise.
My guess would be the combo of your Field Boxer VTEC Controller, your inept attempt at tuning it and the fact that your like revving your engine up to 85k might have broken something. Why would you want to dump 30% more fuel at some RPM range you just picked at random when it seemed to be running just fine before?
Mind you I'm not too knowledgeable about this aspect of Hondas but that sounds pretty unwise to me. If people are saying timing belt did you at least check to make sure it hasn't skipped a couple of teeth? Did you try and reset the ECU? Are you getting any CELs now?
Hope you didn't mess up too big and can get it fixed.

Re: Vtec engage poor power and noise.
yeah sounds like I'm having a bad *** by tuning 30% fuel in it. But I tot it was just fuel add up only and won't harm to engine Again, i just make a short rev to 8500 rpm. then set it back to normal. The problem I describe above a little just like out off engine oil when hitting vtec. I know Sometime when my engine oil is low level. it will sound like this. But this time I check my engine oil was full level. So what could it be, Well I will get to my mechanic to check on this Saturday and see what happen. thank you

all vtec controllers are. nice thought but absolutely no purpose. unplug/unwire that then wire everything back up without it. plus if you mess around too much without knowing exactly what's gonna happen you can do some serious damage.
and last i checked all b16s top out at 8200 all day everyday.
if you wanna control vtec and whatnot get a dyno tune.

it is 2011.. no longer do we have to rely on archaic piggy backs to support engine mods and to overcome weak factory mid range tunes. vtec controllers are dumb, useless, and i get outright offended when asked about them.

Piggybacks arent that bad of a product they're just the "cheaper" & "easier" alt. to standalone units. (some arent cheap or easy) ive ran a field boxer controller on my b16 and its not anything compared my vafc2 or neo.
O.P. sounds like your getting a cel code 22 right?. which is a problem with vtec pressure sensor or the solenoid. take the settings back to 0 and vtec back to stock rpm til you can tune it either prof. on a dyno or track tunning bening very careful not to harm the motor
p.s. i did like the beep shift sound on the boxer. imo (you always remeber the little things lol) good luck man

which you could easily rig a beeper to shift sounds instead of a light.
thats about the only good idea that thing had.

Lol piggy-backs aren't even the cheap way anymore. Phearable and local tuning have wielded much better results for similar, if not better prices.

Re: Vtec engage poor power and noise.
thanks guy for your comment. yeah Piggyback suppose to be a "cheap" and "cheerful" device. Now I felt like it was a "cheap" and "nasty".... haha. If I have some Dollar $$$ I definitely will go for Hondata or other e manage. But sometime when low rpm running about 1500 rpm in gear 4th gear. When I try to press the gas pedal harder there was a engine light yellow show on. I not frequent but sometimes.... Thank you for the comment once again

^ Hondata is amazing if you have the money for it...
Have you been to phearable.net? If your budget is a little tighter you can get a chipped p28 and have at that.
