tranny problem, nobody has answers please help.
ok real short, i put my car in gear, second gear actually. when i am on the gas it stays in gear but when i let off and it is winding down it pops out of gear. sometimes when i am on the gas it stays in gear but only if i hold it. anyone know the problem. it is full of fluid so that is not the problem. any info i appreciate. oh the car is a 96 hatch with a h22 if that makes any difference

Try replaceing the detent ball and spring. There are 2 of them. If that doesn't cure it your shifter fork needs to be replaced. When your on the gas, its under load and everything will stay in place. Once you let off the spring and ball holds the shifter fork in place. Very cheap fix. and its on the case. They are 2 12mm bolts with a crush washer on it. Make sure you replace and do not forget the washers. Once you take the bolt out, the spring usually pops out, pull it out and use a magnetic pick up to retrieve the metal ball's to get them out. Good Luck let me know if this fixes it.

I would have to look, but no you do not have to pull the trans. Its on the casing. There are 2 12mm bolts. one of them could possible be bad. That will be the one controlling the shift fork for the 1-2 slider hub. I would have to look for one on here and i'll post the thread for you to look. Lets hope thats it. If it doesn't fix the problem, then your gonna need a rebuild It may be the 1-2 slider or 2nd gear synchro, or like i mentioned the shift fork. But start from there. Its the cheapest part to get at Honda. They can easily pull the schematics up for you and show you exactly where they go.

Last time my car did that it was because of the syncros, since your telling me its second i'm willing to bet your beat the **** out of the car and "power shift" regularly. Easiest thing to check is motor mounts, if that doesn't fix it, i'm willing to guarantee its your syncros..

Just re-read and you said it's hard to down shift into 2nd... Since syncros have to get both input and output shaft spinning at same speed before you can shift into that gear, i will now bet you $6,419.16 (my account) that it's your 2nd gear syncros.
When you take it in for repair, might as well have them do all your syncros.

Yeah, I agree, he probably beats the **** out of his car, with a boosted H22, who doesn't?
Right, with that said, I also have monopoly money on the syncros, I doubt it's that whole detent ball thing - sounds more like a syncro problem.
