Default Testing Fuel Pressure Regulator

96 civic ex

I found these instructions to test the FPR, are these ok for 96 ex's?

Also when you attached the hose to the top of the fuel filter, I assume you take off the top bolt and the hose screws on?

Can you use any fuel pressure hose or is a special one needed?

And do you need to turn on the car?

I tested my FPR today. I hooked it up per instructions above got about 40-42, then connected the vacuum hose took it off and the pressure did not move, does it mean the FPR is bad?

If it supposed to move how much?

Note did test with key on to pressurize the rail.

I think I screwed up, the test above does not mention starting the car, but I searched and other tests said start it.

Basically from what I read in your supplied service troubleshooting guide is that while car is running you would check for the pressure to be within the specs listed depending on your application,
then it states to remove and pinch your vacuum line to the FPR and the pressure should rise(simulating a high load/high rev condition with out drive)

see how your doesnt do that your next step shown is to replace the part with a known good.

ohhhh lol

This test need to be performed KOER(key on engine running), that is why they want you to pinch that line so you dont produce a vacuum problem while the engine is RUNNING.

And by the looks of the specs the pressure should change roughly 2-4psi

Actually i MUST EDIT THIS AS i MIGHT BE INCORRECT ABOUT TESTING DURING ENGINE RUNNING i WOULD HAVE TO CHECK SERVICE MANUAL
Did check and doesnt state what condition to test under although im sure car must be running cause there is no way there would be a change in pressure simply from disconnecting that line as there is a diaphram in there that only opens when MAP exceeds a certain point.
Opening it to the atmosphere would simply do nothing.

I know I pulled the test from a search. It was a bitch to get the top line tight without it leaking again as well. I am no mood to redo the test.

I do know the pressure is ok just I wasted time not turning on the car, but defeated the purpose to see if the FPR is good or not.

Quick question, with the car running without the gauge connected if I unplug the vacuum line will the RPM's change, or some way of testing the FPR?

you know what I couldnt tell you,
all i know when the ecu trying to hold a certaib rpm, if any fuel adjustments occur no matter which way they change they will affect how the motor runs hence, you could here slight rpm increase/decrease.

I just saw a video on youtube, basically you run it and pull the vacuum hose and let run for a few minutes if fuel comes out then it is bad.

cool beans then when your in the mood shoot it. Hopefully you have a replacement sitting around and just swap it out

Replaced the FPR, highway throttle response seems better esp at speed, less bogging down. Idle seems up a hair in Park about 700, in drive about 650- to 662 or so.

I have to see how it idles at long traffic lights.
