Default Temp gauge sender V. TW sensor

I am wiring up an aftermarket gauge as my current gauge does not work despite replacing the sender once already, so I replaced it with another water temp gauge, a sunpro one, and put the sender where the factory one was in the block, well it reads high just outside of the warranty. Anyway the new gauge I have is an electric one that reads the temp from the ECU, if this is the case, there is no need to replace any senders correct?

Rather a long post, but I guess I should be more clear, essentially what I'm asking is,does the ECU read the water temp from the WT sensor, and not the temp gauge sender?
