Temp gauge and coolant system question
So I have been having problems with my temp gauge on my cluster.. At first I was thinking it could be wiring, but after checking out the thermostat it was stuck open...
I replaced the thermostat and the temp gauge started working again for about a day.. The next day I went out to make sure the temp gauge was still working before I drove my car out for the weekend..
At first the gauge was working, but my radiator fan became unplug and was not on.. After hooking up the radiator fan ( the is on fan as a jumper right now because I have to replaced the obd0 thermostat case, water outlet and get a fan switch) the lower radiator hose lost all presser and became super cold as was the radiator cap.
The radiator was not longer hot, but was a mild warm that you could touch with out burning yourself. It is almost as if the new thermostat is stuck open. I removed the radiator cap after about 30 minutes of running and the cap was cold. It was as if the car was still cold.. I watched the coolant in the radiator and it looked as if it was just pushing threw the system with nothing to stop it.. Even tho the lower radiator house, radiator and cap are cold I still have full heat..I have also replaced the coolant gauge switch with a oem switch.
So will my fan being stuck on cause this problem, could the parts store thermostat just be junk, will the fan being suck on make it harder to bleed the coolant and what are some other things I can try?
Just a update I just replaced the radiator cap.. Nothing changed at all the radiator is still a little warm, lower radiator hose has to presser and is cold.. I tried the bleeding the coolant again with the bleeder screw and nothing is coming out of it.. If I rev it up a little coolant will come out for a sec spit out some air and stop. If I moved the upper/lower radiator hose it spits out a little coolant and stops..

Re: Tem gauge and coolant system question
What I would do if I was you take the thermostat out and you know where that little dimple is cut it with wire cutters then drill that hole out a bit more.. So the water can flow.. You can always us a mug and put some water in it and the thermo in a microwave and test it.. Is your waterpump working..

Re: Tem gauge and coolant system question
Yes my water pumping is working.. you can see the coolant push through the radiator as if it was a race to get back to the same spot.. If I have to I will just end up replacing the water pump and stuff.. It would just be one less thing I have to replace for a while..
Ron bleeding the coolant system is doing me no good right now.. I have let the car run for over a hour with full heat blasting.. Still the radiator is only warm, cap is cold and lower radiator hose is limp and cold.. Now I am be playing with it tonight as I can not sleep... When I 1st start the car the lower radiator hose has presser like it should. Now when it comes time for it to warm up to open the thermostat limp as could be..
I am starting to think the cheap 8.00 thermostat from the part stores are just junk... I think I stated above I needed to order some parts to make my fan work right..

As you can see I have ordered a new Oem thermostat. Also when I open the bleeder valve nothing comes out... The part I am really not going is why the radiator and cap is not getting hot. How can the upper radiator hose be so hot you can not touch it, but the radiator/cap can be so cold..

Re: Temp gauge and coolant system question
Well after about four hours of trying to get everything working we found the reason behind the temp gauge now working.. The temp gauge I replaced was bad, I had a coal can line hooked up wrong and after replaced the switch and hooking up the coal can right the car started working right..
I now idle at 900, temp gauge is read right and my radiator fan kicks on like it should..
