Just set the #1 piston to TDC and do all of its valves. Then set #3 to TDC and do all its valves. Then do #4...and #2.

You can only set ALL of the valves for a particular cylinder when that particular piston is at TDC on the compression stroke. But when you've got #1 to TDC, it just so happens that the intake valves for #2 are closed and can be adjusted...same story for #3's exhaust valves.

At the end of the day, just do one cylinder at a time - it's not confusing that way.

When you start running valves on 16 cylinder engines youll learn to only roll them twice

Make it simple. When #1 is on TDC (all 4 rocker arms loose) set all 4 of those, the two intakes on 2 and the two exhaust on 3. Roll it 360* and set the rest. Cake

Hey my problem isnt that i dont know how to set them. It s that i think i have the wrong springs or the retaingers. so they dont come up all the way. ANd for that they tick Are
all the d16 engine valve spring and retainers the same like zc and the rest. Oh they are
JGE Spring and Retainers i believe got it with a head.

Well springs only return the vavle from the open postion to closed so aftermarket shouldnt affect the lash setting at all. I guess I could make a video if its really that confusing. As for the zc being the same as d16 I don't know

(just under the last picture) Good job.
When #1 cylinder is on TDC, this would be the closest to the driver side, I set all 4 valves for that cylinder, the intake valves on #2, and the exhaust valves on #3. After this you rotate the engine 360* and put #4 cylinder on TDC with #1 cylinder on overlap. Once again overlap is when exhaust valves are closing with intake still opening. You can make sure of this by grabbing the rocker arm with your fingers and try and move it up and down. It should have no play on either intake or exhaust<U>. With #6 on TDC </U>I set all 4 valves for #4 cylinder, intake valves on #3 cylinder and exhaust valves on #2. Check all with a torque wrench and after wards check to make sure clearance hasn't changed

Shouldn't you be checking the clearance between the rocker arm and camshaft? I think you may have goofed.

No, you check it between the tip of the valve and the foot of the rocker arm. When you check that clearance the rocker arm is seated against the camshaft

I was going by this. The one for the SOHC is the same. Not calling you out or anything, I'm just curious to why you checked at that spot.

I can't view that site but if they are checking it between the cam and rocker arm that would be the same clearance as valve stem to rocker arm. When you push that feeler gauge in at the valve stem it pushes the rocker arm against the cam. When you put a feeler gauge between the camshaft and rocker arm it pushes the rocker arm against the valve stem. I've just never heard of anyone checking it there

I don't get it. I have a 2000 Honda Civic 1.6L. I would like to try to do a valve adjustment. I have read your answer. When adjusting the valve for #1 cyl at TDC, do you adjust both the intake and exhaust? Or do you need to rotate the engine 180 degrees?

My addition would be that it might take you awhile to figure out what the proper drag of the feeler guage is like. I know it took me 3-4 tries to get it just right, I was doing them too tight and it would idle like poo.
