taping noise, sounds bad
my d16y8 just started making a tapping noise, i adjusted the valves and it still made the noise. im pretty sure that it is coming from the valvetrain. or somwhere on the top of the motor. its not a knocking sound, but its a loud tap. it does it between 2500 and 3500 rpms, it started when i was getting on the highway was wondering if it might have something to do with the vtec. i was thinking that the hydralic things that kick in the vtec are stuck and it is making the valves rattle. only other thing was when i took off the 1st spark plug wire it didnt make the sound. im hoping it isnt a piston or rod help please.

At first I thought it was a spun rod bearing but you said its coming from the head. I really doubt it has anything to do with the VTEC lobs. Bump for an answer.

The injectors are usually pretty loud. Other then that I have no idea.
Rods and pistons usually just go, when they go bad.

so you dont think that it is the lobes? what about the spark plug wire why does the sound stop when i unplug that one and not the rest? if its the pistons how much more would high compression ones cost over new stock ones if anyone knows>?

sorry your fucked
i have a d16y8 in pieces right now i spun a bearing
it had the same symptoms as what yours did and i found metal shavings in my oil pan which means my block is fucked
if your going to by 4 new rods and pistions i would just go by a b series or something for twice the price which mods done to it
reply
good luck though

YOu need to do some serrious research before you just start wanting high compression pistons...
