Default OBD HELP! Torque Andoird APP & ELM327 Dongle

Quick brief,

i have a '99 honda civic aerodeck MC2,

i got this bee in my bonnet about 10 months ago and now need to bring everything together.

i got a RaspberryPi last year and thought great lets put it in the car and run XBMC for music and movies in the car.

so got pi setup, got a 7" touchscreen, spare centre console,
then thought hold on 6th gen civic should be OBDII,

lets get a OBDII to bluetooth and run diagnostics on Pi as well.
all great till i did more research.

Pi isnt the most powerful to run on android so i found a way of projecting and Android device onto the PI.

so now i have a Galaxy nexus in the glovebox running torque which i access by the pi.

NOW THE PROBLEM!!!!

the ELM327 bluetooth dongle will connect to phone, will see the car, but cannot access the ECU, i had to buy the 16pin(obdII) to 5pin(honda) lead to plug in dongle.

so any ideas. i thought all post '96 hondas were OBDII?? or is it a very basic version of OBDII.

In general yes but some models may vary, I would look into the exact model and possibly into differences between US OBD2 and that in the UK. Most people in this forum are going to have no clue what you are talking about with the Pi and what not also.

We do not even have this vehicle in the USA.

I think the HX or VX but don't quote me.
Simply, it really isn't a Civic or a general Honda issue. Maybe Engine Management & Tuning.

thanks for the quick reply.

its a b18c4 with a P9K ecu,

according to PGMFI

OBD2 B - UKDM - P9K-E11 - 97-00 MB6 Civic VTI DOHC VTEC B18C4 (169hp)

still does not explain why i cant connect to ECU??

bluetooth adapter works with other cars no problem,

01 ford focus,
04 renault kangoo van,
08 e93 M3,

all work perfectly with the adapter.

North American Honda is OBD2, most other countries use OBD2 connectors at the ECU but wont communicate with a scan tool. It's largely an OBD1 ECU in an OBD2 case. JDM and Euro OBD2 doesn't normally have the CKF sensor, secondary O2, some evap stuff, etc.

The long and short of it is, no it's not going to communicate with the ECU.

-A couple of other points. Real OBD2 civics have a standard 16 pin DLC port.
-5th gen civics are '92 - '95.

I heard the HX is OBD2A all years, and some other models have differing years.

Like what was already stated though I guess the EUDM hondas are the same as JDM, no ODB@ support for communication.

HX is OBD2A for '96 - '00 except for the CVT version that is OBD2B for '99 - '00. The GX (CNG powered civic) is OBD2B from '98 - '00 (there is no '96 - '97 version) All other Civics are OBD2A from '96 - '98 and OBD2B from '99 - '00.
