Swapping JDM D15B VTEC from EG to EK
Hey guys, I just purchased a 92 civic hatch with a boosted JDM D15B VTEC for $1500. Ive owned a few civics with swapped motors before, but never actually done the swap myself and would like to do it my first time here.
Reason for swapping:
D16Y7 is getting old at 280,000 km's and starting to burn some oil, and I got the EG for cheap... once i part out interior and body parts, sell the rims, suspension and exhaust I should have gotten a built D15B and turbo kit for pretty much free.
My question for you guys is what all needs to be done to swap this into my 2000 Civic DX with a D16Y7. Im hoping it should be simple since they are both D-series.
I know i need to:
Convert from OBD-2 to OBD-1
Wire for VTEC
Will my mounts workÉ
Do i use the engine harness already in the EK and just add in whatever I need for vtec? Then i will need a conversion harness that connects the OBD-2 engine harness with the OBD-1 ECU? Or how does this work?
I can look at write-ups online for these things... but is there anything else that i need to do or will everything else fall right into place?
Thanks guys!

this is tuff one. cuz its an older motor.
use your obd2 harness. but the obd1 dizzy and altenator will have dif plugs.....
so get obd2 alt and dizzy or adapter plugs.
you will need the obd2 to obd1 ecu harness adatper $40 on ebay.

Will i be able to use the alternator and distributor off of my y7 for the d15b? or just buy adapter plugs?
As for the jumper harness, is it something that i should buy from a quality brand or will an ebay harness be just fine?

Re: Swapping JDM D15B VTEC from EG to EK
i recently bought a jdm obd2 d15b with plans of boosting it. unfortunately i didnt know that this was a crap motor. as it comes with teh 3 stage vtec.
my question is, can i use a z6 or a y8 head on this and is it a straight bolt on?
also is this block the same as the z6 and y8?
id like to use the vitara kit from fj distributor.... but am not sure of this kit is ok to use on the obd2 d15b 3 stage vtec block.
someone please help. im stuck here and dont knwo what to do. ive researched this everywhere but no one knows much about this motor
thank you

Re: Swapping JDM D15B VTEC from EG to EK
Alright so im almost ready to do the swap, D15B is out and im just cleaning it up. I have a chipped p28 and will be using my obd2b harness using a jumper.
I will be using the obd2 dizzy an alt. (can i use obd2 dizzy and alt from a non-vtec motor on the obd1 vtec motor?)
i have read that i may need to use obd2 injectors (which means i will need to buy bigger obd2 injectors) do i use obd1 or obd2b injectors?
Also read that my harness has a knock sensor but there is nowhere for it on the d15b. Do i just cut of off?

I need some info on this as well. My y8 is shot and burns crazy amounts of oil. Planning on doing the same swap.
