Default Stutter when accelerating and CEL...

Serious issue with 94 Del Sol S 1.5L A/T. Read the code from CEL it was getting telling me O2 sensor which I replaced and all was good again at first. Then...it happened again.

Ok, so b4 the sensor was replaced, whenever you would try to step on it, it was almost as if there was a rev limiter at about 3k-4k rpm and it would not shift and allow you to accelerate. Issue as well with initial press of gas peda: it stutters at first and then proceeds. Lastly, if you barely touch the pedal going about 25-30, it stutters even more jolting the car back and forth.

I have tried to read up on the issue that others had and seems like it could be a TPS. I guess I should also mention that when I read the codes I also got a "Electrical load detector" code 20 along with the O2. (I followed the sticky on checking CEL with the 2 wires etc).

Also, code for O2 was "41 Primary oxygen sensor heater"

I fear I am not as clever as I thought...

Thanks in advanced for the input.

Currently, what specific CEL codes are being thrown? If you clear the ECU do any of the codes return?

Have the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor been replaced recently? Have you checked the ignition timing with a timing gun?

I actually have not been able to check the codes as of yet, it just happened a couple hours ago and I am pre-occupied at the moment. The plugs were replaced less than a year ago, wires don't seem to be old, blue NGK wires. Cap and rotor, I have no idea. Car was bought used about a year ago and since the previous owner the engine was replaced. No specifics on whether or not the odds an ends like sensors were replaced.

Mind you this is my friend's car, so I am just trying to do my best to help her out. I will try and pull new codes this weekend.

Another thing to add is that this problem is inconsistent, apparently she drove home today and it was fine again. Off and on issue..

Any one have an idea of where the wiring could go wrong?

So...when checking the CEL, I followed the CEL sticky, and instead of pushing wire through the connector, I exposed the wire and did it that way. I taped it up with e-tape pretty well and made sure it was plugged in correct. Think maybe that is where the source of the problem is?

Another thought was maybe the O2 sensor wiring before the connector was faulty?

I am at a loss until I get the codes...

Ok, so, pulled the codes and correct me if I am wrong but I think the old codes are still existant because the ECU was not reset. The "Electric Load" and "O2" came after 2 new ones.....

Code 14 "IAC (EACV) - idle air control valve"
Code 16 "Fuel injectors"

So...I am not sure how we jumped from O2 sensor to fuel injectors and idle air....but anyone feel that what I am experiencing with the car have a correlation with the codes?

Thank you for any feedback about the old codes and new.

Reset/clear the ECU and drive the car. If the CEL comes on, then pull the codes again. You only need to know the codes that repeat.

Ok, so just cleared the ecu, took it for a drive and car runs like normal. Took it on the freeway and back in like 20 min. No CEL, no stutter, nothing. So, I don't know for sure yet whether or not we are in the clear but I think this is what happened:

I failed to mention before that I bought a universal O2 which the wiring may have been wrong. I drove it with that sensor, and it was all bad. Worse than before. So, cut my losses, bought the right O2 sensor and put it in. No stutter, but still CEL. (because I never cleared it) Then after a little while, stutter began again but then went away and never came back but still CEL. Next day, no CEL, no stutter, not a thing wrong.

So, my thinking is that driving with the universal O2 put things outta wack, throwing the injectors and idle air valve codes. (codes left over from universal O2).

I hope I am on to something now because until 20 min ago, I had no idea what the hell was going on.

Thx again.
