Stripped Bolts on Valve Cover
I feel like I keep finding little things wrong with this Del Sol s D15B7 every day. So I finally found the time to go ahead and do a valve lash adjustment and when I try and take off my valve cover I notice that one of the nuts is just spinning in place. The bolt looks stripped and one other one looks just as bad. I can't take the valve cover off because of this though. I tried prying something under the nut to try and get it to catch while I turned it but it was too flush with the cover.
Anyone have any experience taking something like this off? Can you just buy a new nut and bolt once you do get it off?

Extremely easy. If it's stripped on the head side, it'll just pull straight out with a little wiggling. If it's stripped on the nut side, the nut should pull straight off with a little wiggling. Once you have the VC off, soak it in some penetrating oil, clamp it with some vice grips, and rotate it out.

Re: Stripped Bolts on Valve Cover
Ugh I wish I could take a pic of it right now because I am confused. The valve cover has 4 studs and 4 nuts that hold it in place. Two of the studs look very stripped on the top part of the valve cover where the nuts are. Can those be stripped studs be replaced?

I need to take off all four that are circled but the red ones are stripped. Mine aren't those acorn nut things. I have regular nuts on there and they just spin without coming out. Thanks for the help by the way.

I'm pretty sure the stud is the one stripped. The top of the stud looks all f-ed up. Where could I find some more of those studs? What are they called do you know?

angle grinder/cut off wheel, then vise grip them when the VC is off they're only torqued down to 10ftlbs or hand tight if done properly. Honda dealer is where you'll have to get them and look at a parts diagram not everything is going to spoon fed.

#17 is the acorn nut. You don't need that specific part - like I said, you can just swing by Lowes and get the right sized nut.

#14 is the stud. It is also a cam cap bolt, so yes, you do need that specific part. You also need to start praying that it's the stud that's stripped and not the head. Head is aluminum, stud is steel. Aluminum strips first 9 times out of 10.

Re: Stripped Bolts on Valve Cover
Yeah I figured it was the wrong one but its fine. I had already found the right one when I saw his link. I am almost sure that it is the stud #14 that I am gonna have to replace once I manage to get the nut out. It just looks like the top where the nut goes that is messed up. But yeah I hope that it is that simple. I'm gonna drop by the Honda dealer tomorrow anyway and see if I can pick up two replacements. I'll try and post a pic tomorrow.
