Starters interchangeable on d16a6?
Ok, I'm a bit of a noob, but searched, please help me out...
I have a 92 Civic CX that my friend put a d16a6 into b/c the old engine was laying smokescreens wherever I drove it...
He told me that a problem sometimes springs up with the ignitor, when the engine is hot, and the car won't start.
I'm running into this problem now, I turn the key, and the nothing happens. I have plenty of power to lights, accessories, etc. I can hear what I think is the cooling fan go on.
Problem is, the engine isn't that hot and it isn't particularly hot outside. I think that maybe the starter is the real problem here.
I took it out, and am going to go to the store to have it tested. I also bought a service manual for my Civic, and it states that there are three kinds of starter: Hitachi, Nippondenso, and Mitsuba or something like that.
I understand that the testing procedures are different for each kind of starter, but are the starters interchangeable between brands as far as *replacement* goes?

Re: Starters interchangeable on d16a6? (Bense)
ok, thanks very much
it makes sense, they all do the same thing (start the engine) to the same engine, and they mount in the same holes and use the same plug ins.
Nonetheless, thanks for getting back to me so quick.
