as far as motor mods you at least need arp head studs. but you want the compression as low as possible. i bought a turbonetics kit and upgraded it. stock internals with arp head studs 8 psi and its way more than what i need. the best kit out there though would be the edelbrock kit.

Check the forced induction section on this site. A good parts list could be:

-Forged Pistons (Vitaras, Weiscos or CP)
-Eagle Rods
-Turbo kit (Revhard, Edelbrock or just piece one together)
-Larger injectors
-255 lph fuel pump
-Neptune RTP for tuning (or chrome because is free )

I'm sure there is more that I am missing. You can run 7-10psi on your stock motor all day long without blowing it (as long as its tuned right). I have the edelbrock turbo kit and love it. It came with everything you need. I would upgrade the ecu piggy back that comes with it. Good luck on your journey too FI.

First thoughts....read. And read more. I'd then suggest hit up homemadeturbo.com their faq's will have you set.

Oh. Vitara pistons aren't forged. They are cast as far as I know with thick ring lands.

Tuner toy rods would be cheaper.

DSM injectors also cheap and effective.

Chrome for tuning. (you can use Freelog for logging)

14point7's JAW for your wideband with the Bosch sensor.

You can pick up a smaller sized T3 out of the junkyard and be happy.

Search around and just read. Only thing I can really say.

The D16Y7 isn't a VTEC motor.

Your best bet is to buy a kit like the Edelbrock and have it installed professionally. Properly matching together components for a custom turbo kit is not something to be taken lightly. Don't make the mistake of buying some eBay kit and having some guy send you a chipped ECU. My engine is relatively stock and I consistently stomp poorly executed turbo cars.

Like stated above, read, read, and read some more. I ended up using DSM injectors with a resistor box, and CHROME for fuel management, and tracked down a wideband 02 to tune it out. I ended up making a top mount manifold from the stock manifold. Worked out okay as far as junkyard setups go. I ran 6 lbs with no internal modifications to the engine at all. Was a ton of fun.

My d16y8 is boosted. garrett t3 turbo, turbonetics wastegate, etc. But i have stock internals, a thicker head gasket, but no arp head studs, although you should invest in it. was boosting 7 lbs @ 178 whp. Boosting more now. cant share the numbers. Its fun, but once you up the power, an lsd would be a +. I have threads in here as my car was being built, you should do a search and check it out. Just dont post too much or brag too much once your cars done, some fkin theives decided they should take it for a test drive.

I put in a exedy stage 1 clutch in already. i need to get a lightened fly wheel. I just dont want to blow anything. Speaking of blowing my friend had a turbo ls vtec and when he first got it he drove it hard for an hour on the way home and when he got home he turned it of and it siezed so Turbo timer????

Since you have a y7 you might want to think about upgrading the intake manifold to at least the y8 model, if you haven't already. If I was you I would probably try to pick up a decent used kit to play around with, unless you have money to spend. You could then use the money you saved to get a good tune. A turbo timer isn't a necessity, but would be nice to have if you have the extra cash. Like others have said, what you really need to do first is read, read, read. Check out the FI forum here and also turbod16.com. There is tons of information to go through in these places.

i was reading up on alot that you should roll stock but upgrade your manifold and put your money into the turbo kit so if your motor blows your only down $300.
WHAT DO YOU THINK

Well yeah you can do that. Plenty of others have before you. You won't be able to make mega hp on a stock block, but it should be good for 200-225 with a good tune. That should be more than enough for a dd.

d16y7 isnt a vtec motor, unless you swapped the head for a y8 or z6 one.

why do you have a d16y7 in a 92-95? you swapped it ?

Don't do anything until you do research. Just doing what people tell you to do is the worst thing possible. Do your own research and figure it out for yourself. That way you end up with exactly what you want in the end, instead of ending up with what other people want. No one in this thread has even asked you what you plan to do with the car, yet they're still trying to recommend things for you to do, that says a lot. Is it your daily driver, a weekend car, drag racing, scca, road racing? What kind of budget do you have, be honest with yourself. How much power do you really want, leaving room for improvement for the future. You need to figure those things out, and as your researching, base your decisions around that. If you want it to last, you need to build it right, buy the right parts, and get it tuned properly.

i have a boost d16 swap i love it.
I have a z6 bottom end with a y8 head. The bottom end isnt stock weisco pistions, crower rods, micro polished crank, arp head studs. The head is stock no need to upgrade you can run 30 lbs of boost on a y8 or z6 head.

I have a top mount striaght line manifold thats hooked up to a gt3076R with 63AR exhaust housing and a 3 inch downpipe from straight line. As for the fuel i have the ugraded fuel pump, aem fuel rail with fuel pressure regulator and 750 injectors. For tuning im using chrome its converted to obd1 now
Tranny I have Lsd on an ex tranny.

Its alot of fun im running 25 psi and loving it go for it. I dont care what anyone says d series can be fun. Even at 12 psi.
