Smoking at WOT
I rebuilt my motor about a year ago, but i didn't rebuild the head at all. The head has 138k on it. My problem is if i drive for a while, like an hour on the highway, then step on it, it will smoke pretty bad. If i step on it again it will be cleared up, almost like it builds up when i drive and cleans itself out under full throttle. It used to do it a little bit but i notice it alot more without a cat now. Anyways any advice will help, i really hope its valve seals, cuz i'm goin to put cams in it soon. A compression test turned out alright, no big problems, so i am really hopin its the valve seals.

How about some more details, what color smoke? Is your car running rich or lean? Are you low on coolant? You know, things that will help us help you.

Re: (-DesTiNy-)
k thanks, i didn't mean to sound angry, i was a mechanic for five years and i built this motor myself, and i'm just frustrated that this is happening after a year, i really noticed the smoke after puttin on a high flow cat, i really hope its valve seals cuz that easy, i can't afford another motor build being in college and all, any advice will help, thanks

most likely valve stem seals, check the rings w/out any tools like this: someone has to ride behind you and know whats going on so they can watch. ok, take it easy through first gear, shift to second, romp on it to redline, and just close the throttle, dont hit the clutch, just let it engine brake, if it smokes its most likely rings, if not, its the valve stem seals. of coarse there are other things it could be, but these are common.
