Default Smoking problem (radiator)

so recently ive noticed some smoke(steam) coming out of my hood....i pop open the hood and it looks like somethings burning on my radiator causing it to smoke(steam) up....it definitely smells like coolant but i checked and cant find any coolant leaking. it looks like its coming right in front of my fan...........both my radiator hoses are hot and the car doesnt seem to over heat at all, the top hose is getting enlarged where it connects to the motor.... there is no coolant burning out of my exhaust and there is no oil in my radiator or coolant mixing with my oil....also the fan rarely if nvr kicks in unless i turn on my heater....also the radiator seems to be sucking up the reservoir pretty fast,,, also my idle is fine....

symptoms: enlarged top radiator hose, smoking(steam) from radiator in front of fan, fan rarely kicks in (but it does) (maybe thermostat?), reservoir getting sucked up.

What ive checked (done): open radiator cap, turn on car let sit to check if its properly filled and to take out bubbles if any, i checked the oil to see if it was milky, exhaust is not shooting out smoke or burning coolant.....checked for leaks on radiator (hoses)....

What i havent done yet: pulled out radiator to check for leaks (thoroughly), its an alluminum radiator also, replace thermostat, replace hoses

if any one has a comment or a solution or a diagnosis ... please comment

Default Re: Smoking problem (radiator)

Check your fan switch, which is located at the thermostat. Jump the main - only - plug that goes into the thermostat, and see if the fan runs. If it does, your fan is good and it's a wiring/fuse problem. Check fuses and wiring for solid grounds.

If fan doesn't run when you jump the wires, then replacing the fan and/or fan switch would be my next step. Having the fan working properly is fairly important, so I'd try to fix it before you drive it more and your car overheats or something.

Good luck!
