set timing with out jumper

Default set timing with out jumper

what happens if I set my timing without the jumper installed (2 pin service connector).

with out it i am @ 16º btdc, but the car doenst start quite right, but it idles fine.

You need to jump the connector and the engine must be warm and idling to spec.

Jumping the connector prevents the ECU from automatically advancing the ignition timing so that you can properly set the base timing.

It might be. Recheck the timing with the connector jumped. Are the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor in good shape?

hmm, I dont think I've ever done this either and my car is running like garbage. Any pics on what the actual service connector looks like? I'm going to search in the meantime until a reply. Thanks in advance

its the same plug you use to check CEL codes.

It's the same service connector used to pull CEL codes (see forum CEL sticky). (edit: or post above)

Doh! I've probably looked over that thing 115643210 times. Thanks for the pics! Ok now I know why I could never find it, it was hid behind the ECU, so I take this plug out and jump it like in the pictures. This in turn should give me the codes for my random misfiring. At this point would I plug it back in for it to recognize that I re-set the timing??
