Default Rust in Gas Tank..

Quick question, I have a 1995 Eg that has rust in the gas tank.. I've been having to keep at least 1/8 or 1/4 full otherwise, I loose all power. I know there is rust in the tank, because I took the filter off and let gas run through the lines and seen the gas was dark orange.

My question is, does anyone know how to remove rust from your tank, without having to drop it, and power-wash it or without having to buy a new tank?

Get a new tank... and PUT MORE GAS IN IT. The reason a tank rusts is because people hi-$5 their tanks at the pump. The more you fill it, the more the tank will be coated with wonderful gasoline, preventing rust.

agreed with luczOr. if it's already rusted out like that then your only option to fix it is replacing the tank.

once the rusting started it's just a question of time (even if you flush it) until it returns again - FIND A PARTS CAR that wasn't standing for 2 long (soon after the wreck or engine failure)

If he's really dedicated, he could just drain and remove the tank entirely... dry out the tank so it's clean, then, assuming the tank truly is free of any gasoline vapors, soak the tank in CLR for a few hours. Rinse the tank with fresh water, wipe down and dry the tank immediately so no rust forms, try to inspect the tank to see if there is still rust and then if it looks good, you can put it back. Rust forms because there is WATER inside of the tank.. not a good thing to have inside of your gas tank!

A pressure washer (wash) and a compressor with a hose attachment (dry) will help also. That is of course, you have access to both.
