Icon2 Ridge lines on top of my cylinder walls??

Hey guys, I'm building a d16 block from ground up. I noticed this ridge line on top of the cylinder wall; basically where the piston stops at. I recently just finished honing all my cylinders.
My question is, is this something i should be worrying? im scared in building it all up then later on it gives me major problems

If anyone could help me out and give me some advices ASAP, it would be very helpful.

Thank you

Mike

That is normal... The spark plugs dont fire until slightly after top dead center. The piston does not stop at that line, it goes all the way up and when it is SLIGHTLY down, it will fire and push the piston down. It's almost like the rest of the cylinder is shiney except the very tip?

its where the rings stop, not the piston. theres a cylinder reaming tool that you are supposed to use before honing the cylinder

Yea but I've been searching around and it seems like everyone that has done an engine build don't really have any ridge lines. Its all smoothed with the cross hatch and no ridge lines. Also to mention is that read a post about the ridge line that if you can scratch it with your finger nail and its to deep then it has to go to the machine shop. but idk

what do you think of it? ill try a post some pics of my cylinder walls

that would mean i would have to go with newer pistons and the cylinders has to be bored out. am i correct?

You can keep stock bore and reuse your pistons... just take that ridge out and rehone it... If you dont, you can damage your new rings or crack the sleeve...

let me know what you guys think of it.

Reamer tools can be pretty iffy... If you take too much out, you will have to bore it or re sleeve it, so it should really be done by a machine shop unless you know what you're doing... pretty sure harbor freight has it...

wouldn't trust harbor and freight that much, but it sounds like to me that i should stop by to a machine shop and let em do it.

would have a guestimate in how much it would turn out to be?

Standard engine building procedure is to overbore .020" or .5mm to remove any scoring, and ensure perfectly concentric cylinders.

Just re hone the walls and periodically check end gap clearance during the honing, if you cant get the ridges out and stay with in end gap specs you will need to rebore, and make sure to check end gap and the upper, middle and lower sections of the cylinder wall

you're looking at average $230 to have it bored and honed... However, if you're re building it, you might as well overbore it and get some more displacement out of it.

Thanks guys for all your help

Good news from the machine shop, they told me that the ridges aren't really bad as they look. The wears are minors, but i considered in them doing a better job in honing the cylinders and clearing the ridges

Will get my block in a couple days from now. I honestly cannot wait. Hopefully it all goes good as planned!

P.S. I totally dislike the 3 jaw type honing tool from the local auto parts store. I prefer the ball honing type tool IMO!

Yeah, for modern engines, the stone honing tool is far too abrasive... The dingle ball hone is much better for todays applications... Glad the machine shop is able to take care of you... how much did they charge?

for all cylinder honed in w/ out getting it oversized $53

turned out awesome and not like junk jaw type honing tool in any local auto parts.

This is off topic guys but I'm looking towards getting a stage 1 Comp cam 59100... what is all I will need to get it running in good driving condition? You might ask what I mean, but in other words, I did some research and in some cases people get rough idles or something is not right with the installment.. But I could be wrong..

I know on the site it say i can use my stock internals but for how long will this last
