Default replacing distributor/rotor, but rotor doesn't have a setscrew......

Ok, I'm trying to replace my distributor on my d16z6. Yanked the old distributor out, no problem.

I got o look for that damn setscrew that everybody tends to strip out......this one doesn't have one.

So I start to pry on the rotor a bit with a screwdriver to maybe get the thing to pop off, nope, no go. I end up busting the damn rotor.

Now, obviously I'm going to be looking for a new rotor tomorrow, but has anybody ever seen this kind of distributor?

No set screw, and the rotor just slides over a splined sleeve that appears to be stuck on the distributor shaft and won't come off. How are you ever supposed to change this type of rotor? Anybody?

Here's what I'm looking at. As you guys can see, no setscrew. That little silver metal thing inside the splined thing doesn't come out.

i just replaced my whole ignition with MSD parts last week. mine didnt have nything like that. but, it looks like that sliver piece holds the splined part from spinning seperate from the shaft. the silver piece seems like it is wedged in there pretty good over time. try some WD-40, let it sit for a few minutes to soak down in there and a good set of needle nose plyers to pull out the silver piece. that should loosen up the whole thing to get it off. i am actually stationed at pearl harbor. send me a message if you ever need some help. i love workin on my car and learnin more about it all.

Well, like I said, it's no big deal. I actually had to break to rotor to get to this point.

That silver piece has been in there for years and isn't coming out. This is all on the old distributor, so It's all garbage anyway.

I was just curious how people have removed these things without actually tearing the rotor apart in the process.

Picking up a new rotor from Checkers down by the stadium in the morning, so no biggie.

The pics are of the old distributor. Everything's going back to Checkers so I can get my core charge back, so it's no biggie.
Th new distributor has the hole for the setscrew, so everything's going to be fine.

I had this problem when my coil went bad and I ended up breaking the coil, so the metal peice needs some BP a small pry bar to pry and tap with a hammer for about an hour and WHALA it will slide off over some time. I was pretty scared when this happened but it turned out for the better.
