93 Del Sol - intermittant crank no start
I first want to say I love this board. I am a 30 year Ford Service Manager. (dont run me off I am also a Master Ford Tech)........... I am though new to Honda and my GF has a 1993 Del Sol with a problem.
Car has been intermittant crank no start. Got info and schematics from this site and chased down my issue. Im looking for backup or anything I may have overlooked before I change the fuel pump.
Started checking fuses31,24 and 18 all good. Pulled main relay, checked connector powers and grounds all good. Bench checked relay good. Check engine light proves out by key, with relay click as it should. Noticed dont always hear pump run when turn key forward. When you hear pump (maybe 1 in 10 key cycles), car will start.
I bypassed main relay, pins 1,7,3. As I read schematic this gives me direct power from battery to ECU/injectors and fuel pump. With relay bypassed has same issue, when you hear pump it starts. Yellow wire which is now direct shows me its the main pump power.
I am assuming that with the main relay bypassed I am supplying direct power to the pump but the pump is not always energizing.?
Please Honda masters help me before I crawl around this little bitty car and remove the console and rear panels.
Any thing I have overlooked or is my theory in the park?

Re: Need Help!
I have removed that "main" relay and checked it. All solder looks good and it bench tests good.
Was just thinking I could use test light after relay on yellow to pump, cycle key and make sure I show power on that wire. If it powers and pump doesnt energize that eliminates relay for sure. (as long as it has 12v)......
Same as removing interior and checking power directly at pump connector?

---------------------
Resolder the main relay, clean and tighten the G101 ground on the thermostat housing, and then go from there.
In general, if the problem persists after doing these things, then try swapping in a known good ECU.

Re: 93 Del Sol - intermittant crank no start
My experience with 4 del sols and replacing fuel pumps, main relays, fuel pump relays, ignition switches, starters, cleaning grounds, etc.
My problem was a intermittently failing ECU. Moisture/condensation issue.
Borrow a known good ECU and swap yours with a car that has no issues.
This will tell you if it's the ECU.
