My A/C does not blow as cold as it should be. I mean its cold, but nowhere near as cold as I know it could. Ive replaced the compressor, txv, and receiver dryer. I had the system flushed and vacuumed too. Is there any other reason why my a/c wouldnt be 100%??? Ive read the FAQ DIY also and it still doesnt answer my question.

I had a shop do it. The mechanic told me it held vacuum when he tested it. The gauge reads full too.

A distinct possibility is that the previous owner had a hook-up and had it charged with R12 instead of R134a.

Well the vehicle is a 99. I dont think its possible to service with R12 because of different service ports. Also just to clarify, when I bought the car the A/C wasnt working, the compressor clutch had taken a dump. So I bought a new one and started from there

So it's never had AC ... and you have zero point of reference ... but you think it should be colder?

Well this is my 5th honda now, all have had a/c. I also have 2 other vehicles with a/c, and I compared the temp readings to the helms manual. All of which indicate there is def. something wrong with it. I dont wanna turn this into a pissing match. Maybe there is something im missing though, thats all.

How much higher are the temp readings than what is indicated in the Helms manual?

Also, it is possible to service an R134a vehicle with R12 freon, because the freon is just a can. You use an R134a charging kit with R12 juice. It's illegal, but if you have the hook up, you can get it ... and it will run a lot colder.

OK just ran the car and the High side line going from the condensor to compressor is really hot. Is this normal or not???

I have an 2000 acura TL. I thought that the a/c was running low or wasn't working properly, it was cold but not cold enough. I took it to Acura because it was still under warranty and they said that the a/c system was overcharged. So i guess the removed some of the a/c fluid stuff and now it's colder than cool.

Maybe your system is overcharged too?

maybe your condenser fan motor is bad, or your condenser coils are very dirty

Well the fan is coming on when its supposed to but I am going to try cleaning out the coils. We'll see how that goes.

ok, yes the high side should be hot and the low side should sweat.. if you're in an area with any kind of humidity, and i see you're in Texas so that'll do.

being a 99 i don't think you have an adjustable blend door. the blend door mixes the heat and the A/C and if it's not adjusted then the heat will be mixing in even though the dial on your dash says it's all the way on cold.

what you need is a thermometer. i like the ones with the dial and a straight metal probe. you can get them in some automotive stores and in kitchen supply stores too.

when you get in your car put the thermo. in the middle vents with a/c on, fan on high, recirculate on and keep an eye on it while you drive. your temp should fall steadily untill it gets to aroud 42 degrees F. and the system will cycle off. this is how a properly working a/c should act.
