question about vibration for my 97 civic, help
hi, I have a civic hx 1997 with cvt. and I recently encounter problem. the car is vibration when driving. when I put it in P or N on the transmission and hit the gas. no vibration. but, when I starting the car, I feel vibration, when the rpm reach about 1500rpm, then I start feeling it (about 35 mph). then I stop the car and put it into "D" on the transmission and then hit the brake while hit the gas. when the car hit about 1500rpm, I feel the vibration. is it the engine mount problem? how do I find out which engine mount? if not the engine mount problem. what other problem can that be? thanks a lot.

it does sound like a mount problem. being that you mainly fell the vibration after you put into gear, i would look at the upper and lower tranny mounts. the upper is located under the air filter (box). the lower is underneath the frame near the passenger wheel well.
when looking at the mounts, look for torns and/or cracks in the rubber parts of the mount.

if the car is your daily driver, with little to no mods, then it'll be cheaper for you to just pick them up from the part store. the dealer is expensive when it comes to certain parts, especially mounts.

if this is just a regular DD with no mods just get the OE replacement mounts. Going aftermarket like hasports is more for the enthusiast with a swap who wants a stiff setup....

i think he was thinking more in the terms of aftermarket (like autozone) than honda genuine part.

thanks a lot again. the car is not modded at all, except that I recently replace the OEM struts to Tokico HP. and the K&N filter. by the way, do you know much about the CVT tranny, when my car is stopping at the traffic light, the idle needle sometime keep moving up and down. I search google and cannot get any answer at all. any idea?

the idle moves up and down meaning you hear the motor rev back and forth right? try turning on your a/c while your at a stop...if the idle stays costant then it has to do with your fuel pump...basing this on my experience....could be something else too...

if you idle is jumping up and down when you come to a stop, it has nothing to do with the tranny.

Re: question about vibration for my 97 civic, help (philosofy1)
you maybe right. I do not know. yes, with the AC on. everything become normal. and I search the net for people who has the civic HX, they have similar problem. this has something to do with CVT. if I put it to N. that disappear too. I am sure if I put a meter across the battery to check the battery voltage, it will be something like 14V. 13V ..12.5V..13.5V..14V 13V...etc.. but I did not try that, I think the alternator is not providing stable voltage. I check ALLDATA on the net before and they said honda refuse to provide this kind of information.

by the was, the alternator is a brand new one that I replaced 4 months ago. I can check the belt again to make sure the tension is ok.

fuel pump? and irradic idle can be caused by a couple of things.
the op would have to go into more of a detailed description as to what and when the irradic idle occurs.

Could be IACV, vaccume leak, FITV (depending on year of car), depends on if he is throwing any cells, or if his o2 sensors are hooked up (my secondary wasnt and i had a crappy fluctuating idle.
