Question About a Test Pipe
Okay so right now I have a Z6 with a stock header going to a stock cat and a Greddy SP2 (with 2 1/2" piping). I had an exhaust leak for a while that was recently fixed but I'm still getting some pretty nasty sounds so I've come to the conclusion that my cat is done.
What I don't get is that I'm sure the collector on the header is less than 2" but the test pipe will be either 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" so how will they bolt up? Or will I have to get an aftermarket header?
My next question is if I can keep the stock header: Since the piping for my exhaust is currently 2 1/2" would if be better to get a 2 1/4" test pipe so it almost "steps up" in size or would it be better to just get a 2 1/2" test pipe so it matches the exhaust?
Thanks for any help!

Re: Question About a Test Pipe
id say call VRS and have em make you a step up pipe so you don't have to have the gaps in the flanges. i had one for a 2.75 to a 2.5 made for 60 shipped. but everything has gone up since then so i think its 70 now.
if your going to build the motor anymore id say just get an aftermarket header preferably with a 2.5 collector.

Well I mean the motor is going to stay stock so I really didn't want to get a header unless I had to. Who is VRS and do they have a site?

vrs.com its not the greatest site but they do good work and are quick about it. calling em would be your best bet.

yea, it works just like they do, but they are quailty ebay is not, ebay headers, test pipes are junk, they crack and break, waste of money, period.

Re: Question About a Test Pipe
i bought a ebay header for 140bux yrs ago i havent had any problems with it and its 50 state legal. they may crack if it has a heavy *** turbo on it but you have exhaust brace from the motor to the header to support it. its better to have a flexpipe in the exhaust to cause it from not breaking and has some flex. this is a z6 with barely 100hp to the wheels i dont think hes going to have a problem with it. even quality parts break...bolts ons on a z6 dont add to much and i wouldnt spend a buncha money on them.

Friend had a y8 header/exhuast both cracked, within weeks of each other, however we arent talking about a $140 header, guy said 40-50, even with ebay im sure there is a difference in them.
