Default Pulsing Idle on 95 Civic hatch. Please help UPDATE Cleaned IAVC

First things first the car has the stock D15b7 and it is an auto transmisson. The problem is right now whenever I put the car in park or in neutral from drive it either pulses from about 1000-1500 rpm or it jumps to about 1800-2000 rpm and stays there. The only thing I have found that stops this while it happens is using my toe to pull the gas pedal up just a tiny bit then it stops the pulsing idle or drops the revs to around 700 and then it stays there. Which makes me think the throttle isn't closing right or the cable isn't tight or something. If anyone has any ideas or things I could try please let me know.

Watch out what you ask for, you just might get it:

http://www.gassavers.org/showthread.php?t=6478

It's the cylinder looking thing with 2 coolant hoses coming out the bottom in the upper right below. Basically it's a little tiny throttle valve that lets air into the manifold to increase the idle when things like your alternator or A/C kick in and put a load, so the engine idle won't drop and possibly stall. The ECU (computer) is partially in control of it. Sometimes they get gummed up or some sensor will mess with the computer and cause issues.

No I probably will not be able to get to it until this weekend since I have to let the car cool off before I work on it and I am at work all day.

BTW I love the qoute in your sig. Hilarious.

Ok I cleaned that last night and spent a good time doing it. It seemed to kinda fix it but then this morning it still did the same thing. I think I found the issue. The throttle does not close all the way when the pedal is released. It seems like the part that the throttle cable connects to and turns to open the throttle is alittle loose and doesn't shut all the way which is why I have to pull up on the gas pedal to close it fully. The rpms tend to jump around some when I am decelerating at a light. I originall thought this was just the downshifts but it seems like the same issue.

So did more searching and found this write up.

https://honda-tech.com/forums/acura-integra-6/%2A%2A%2A-how-%2A%2A%2A-clean-your-fitv-aka-fast-idle-thermo-valve-1564019/

It seems like this could be the fix as well. I will try it tonight.

Ok I have done both things gated above. It stilidles high around 1800 rpm but we will see in the morning after the engine is fully cooled.

Sounds like the throttle cable may be adjusted too tightly (should have about 1/2" of slack) or the throttle body may be dirty, causing the throttle plate to stick open.

I cleaned the inside of the throttle body last night and it was pretty dirty. I need to see if I can loosen the throttle cable since I think it is a little tight. Now as far as I can tell it just idles high when in neutral or park. I will loosen the throttle cable when I get hiom today and I bought some throttle body cleaner and I will give that an even deeper clean.

Well just went to grab some lunch and it did the stupid pulsing idle again in park and in neutral. This is really pissing me off. Any other idea's?

Loosened the throttle cable and that seems to have done it. It still has a very tiny rooming idle when in park but nothing bad like before. I hope this is the end.
