Polishing a Header...
Wassup guys, i plan on polishing my JDM 4-1 header soon. I know it requires ALOT of time and patience and as well as the tools needed. Now my question is, after i polish the header and make it bling, how can i keep it shiny without it turning gold or some other kind of color.
Any comments would be helpful as well as pictures.
thanks guys, John

Are you getting it prefessionally polished or doing a spray can job?
I would recommend sanding off all the rust, also, use hi-temp primer, and spray a hi-temp paint. I painted my header with just the paint finish and it started flaking but it still has the original silver finish without any color changes whatsoever.

Re: Polishing a Header... (Pat McGroin)
i'm going to sand my header
400 grit
600 grit
1000 grit
1500 grit
then finish it off with 2000 grit, but i was wondering if there was some kind of clear protectant that would keep it shiny and not have it rust again

They're trying it in that thread. My guess is that it would if it doesn't burn off.

You might want to check your local Harley Davidson Shop. They have some kind of cream/polish that keeps the bike pipes from turning gold/blue. Not sure if it will work on your header, but I always wondered. You can be the test mule.

You could go for something like Jet-Hot, HPC HiPerCoat, etc. These would also provide greater protection, reduce under-hood temps, and increase exhaust velocity, which a simple clear coat wouldn't do.
