PLEASE HELP ME!!! Distributor was making noise and now trans fluid is leaking near it
I dont know what to do, but the tranny fluid is for sure leaking from/through the distributor by it. its red fluid someone told me its the tranny fluid. some friends told me its the gasket. but i dont know. should i get a new distributor and then get a new gasket? and i have no idea how to time the distributor! some one help me please on anything i can do to fix. the distributor was making lots of noise for a while and then it quieted down and then it leaked. i think its because the gear was grinding against something and that made a whole. please, i love my car, and i dont want to give it up, and dont have money for the overpriced tranny shops here.
THank you for looking and helping.

It's more likely motor oil than transmission oil. Remove the distributor connector and the three bolts. The distributor should then just slip out. Inspecting the inside of the removed distributor should reveal the problem. Replace the O-ring on the shaft to stop the oil leak.

^^^very simple. 3 12mm bolts to unbolt. the o-ring is most likely your problem and a new one is less than $5. dont worry

you dont even have to worry about timing.
just remove, replace o-ring and re-install.

use something to to mark your dizzy location. like white out. just make a line acroos the top ear of the dizzy to the cam cap on the engine.

how is it possible that a) transmission fluid would be leaking out of a part that is impossible for tranny fluid to leak from?, and b) is it manual? manual transmission fluid is yellow/amber color. not red. it would have to be an automatic.

If the dizzy is making noise, it's most likely the bearing inside it. Replace the dizzy with a rebuilt one from a auto parts store.
When you pull the dizzy out, you will see the o-ring.
It can be a pain to disconnect the two plugs on the dizzy, you need to press one clip in and lift the clip at the same time.
I think the rebuilt dizzy comes with a o-ring.

Don't buy a re manufactured distributor from an auto parts store. they aren't reliable and are made of low quality parts. at the very least buy a used, low mileage one.
