I have a stock b16 and I am planning on putting ITR/CTR valve springs and ITR/CTR cams in sometime this summer. I was told I could swap out my P2T for either the PCT or P73 with no problem (granted they are obd2b).

My question will I see any difference between these two ECU's?

You'll have the better timing/fuel maps for the CTR cams if you use the PCT. However, only the CTR intake cam is different. The exhaust cams are the same.

If I get a CTR intake cam I should get the PCT
If I get an ITR intake cam I should get the P73

Can anybody else shed some light on this? Are there any other problems to running a PCT or P73 in place of my P2T

Just want to make sure before I spend $150 on an ECU

I know there aren't any PCT USDM ECU's but there are USDM P73's. Is there any problem with running a JDM ECU on a USDM engine? Whether it's a P73 or PCT

my advice?
on the cheap, get a obd1 Vtec ECU chipped out, get the obd2-obd1 jumper harness, and then get the car tuned on crome.

Or...on the expensive side, get an AEM EMS and get it tunned. You'll be much happier than running a stock ECU.

so is there a big deal running a jdm p73 over a us p73 whats the difference will it throw a check engine in a obd2b car

CTR/ITR exhaust cams are the same.
CTR/ITR Intake cam 99-01 spec are the same.
ITR intake cam 96-98 spec is different.
(3* not really a huge deal in the grand scheme of things)

Put simply
you have a B16, the PCT ECU is for a B16.
If you had a B18 I'd say go with the P73.
The P73 will be more fuel than you'll want.

Also, keep in mind that in OBD2b flavors, only the USDM P73 exists, but it has an immobilizer. (coded ignition key, PITA)
All JDM ECUs are OBD2a (PCT and P73)

So you're going to need a conversion harness, why not drop to OBD1 and tune it...


Difference between JDM and USDM P73s, the JDM ECUs are basically OBD1 inside, and will not communicate with OBD2 scan tools.
They are also tuned to run slightly higher compression ratio, and on slightly different fuel.
