Been trying to figure out this overheating problem forever , so my setup is erl sleeved block basically fully built motor , 6262 turbo topmount setup , car started to over heat , fan stays on temperature won't drop , heater is deleted , thermostat is removed , changed head gasket and new koyo radiator , hook hondata up it will stay at 190's at idle until I get in it to drive , bleed the coolant like 5-6 times still over heats , temps get up to 220 then I shut it off any ideas ???

I've also done coolant pressure test and there are no leaks

Fan also kicks on it's a blox slim fan , comes on at 190degrees

Did a compression test 180 on all 4 cyl also

Is the Koyo equal efficiency or higher efficiency than the OEM rad. With the turbo, I'd suspect you'd need a double efficiency radiator, maybe a full size instead of half size?

This might be the case after you rule out the water pump.

This is your problem. Im pretty sure these fans are the same as the cheap ebay fans. Mishimoto also sold cheap fans, put a decal on them and jacked up the price.

If you want a fan that will work, spend a little money and get this

Can't fit a full size radiator on setup , has full race topmount , I used this fan on my last car same setup it worked fine but who knows , I'm lost !!! Like u said next option I can think of is water pump , it's not leaking or anything and it looks like water is moving around

I can control the fan when to come on too I just have it set up thru hondata

Possibly but answer me this... How is the fan going to make a difference when driving 60 mph down the road? The air pushing through the rad should be far greater than any fan when you are driving at a decent clip.

If he's overheating when driving (he didn't mention speed which is a huge factor) then it's fairly reasonable to assume the fan is a negated point assuming driving at 50mph or more and overheating.

Those cheap plastic fans are garbage. they barely push any CFM worth cooling. ask me how I know.

I get that, but also noted that OP says it stays at 190 idle but overheats when they drive. Which I realize doesn't mean they ever got to the freeway or freeway speeds to see.

Also I've not heard anything solid in favor of blox anything so I totally appreciate the fan link you provided. It looks like a seriously upgraded fan even over stock.

I use that fan and sounds like a hairdryer.

I was going thru the same thing years ago until I figured it out that the Miashimoto fan was garbage. They took the cheap ebay fans and put their decal on it and marked it up to 60 bucks.


Also, Idle also means the car isnt under load.


Im also guessing theres a warped head or deck. OP stated he changed the HG. But we all know the deck and head need to be checked for warpage. Could also be spent exhaust getting into the cooling system..Again, this would mean warped head and/or deck.

Depends if he has the fan wired correctly, it could be pushing the hot air to the radiator. If he has it in the oem location it could be pushing hot air from the inside the bay. It needs to be pulling air. Does OP have the slim fan shroud?
