Well last week i changed my head gasket because it was blown and only had water in it and it never overheated but i decided to put 50/50 Antifreeze so i drained the system and put antifreeze but now it over heats all the way to the H so i drained it and put water again and now no over heating..Any Ideas?

you may have gotten an air bubble in it when using antifreeze running in to overheating problems my self.

The main problem that occurs in this situation is that when people completely drain the coolant and refill they typically don't fill the head and block first through the top coolant hose and an air pocket develops. It doesn't have anything to do with using antifreeze or water. Also, if you live in an area that gets below freezing using water can be very detrimental.

Not only does water run the risk of freezing in cold climates, It also causes rust/corrosion and premature water pump failure. Anti-Freeze protects against corrosion and is also the lubrication for the water pump.

Yes what everyone is telling you is correct, you had air in the system.

bleed out all air bubbles from the cooling system and if it still overheats check the upper and lower radiator hoses and see if what is hotter then the other thermostat could be stuck

I use a Lisle Coolant Blleding Funnel. Have had it for about 2 years and done 4 coolant changes on different cars using it. It really gets the air out.

ya that funnel is a life saver but if you dont have it
just keep pushing on the radiator hoses to push the air out is a slow process but it does the job judt dont squeeze too hard lol or the coolant will get everywhere

raising the car in the front on a jack or putting it on an incline with the cap off will help the air to go to the highest point and escape out the cap.

i raised it up and let it run for 10 mins and squeezed the tubes slightly and air did get out but it still over heated! maybe the thermostat??? i drained it again and ran water only and no over heating

the best thing u can do is get a fail safe stat and if it still gets hot then its your water pump
had to do the exact same process of elimination on mine.

ya i got my stat today, failsafe and gasket, if it doesn't work i have a water pump on hand already that i got 2 weeks ago

hey bro are you looking at the temp gauge and determining that the car is overheating cause the gauge is going up???
if you are you might have a bad ECT and getting false reading or you just not bleeding the car correctly when you had the car in the air and squeezed the lines did you have the car running?

Before you change the thermostat (even though its easy) start the car and let it idle until the fan kicks on. Then feel the top and bottom coolant hoses, if the bottom is hot and the top is cool, its your thermostat. If both are hot, then your problem lies somewhere else. **disclaimer** It could be the other way around, bottom cold/top hot, I forget. Either way, if they aren't the same temp, then the thermostat isn't opening.

ya i know, my top hose was hot and bottom warm so am changing it tomorrow
