Default Options for wheel well liners

The front wheel well liners on my hatch are slowly disentagrating and I am looking to make sometype of replacement for it. I would just my new liners but I am trying to get a bit more clearance between it and the tire. And I dont want to just leave it open because I dont want crap to get where it shouldnt. So anyways I was thinking of fabing some type of an aluminum liner, has anyone ever tryed this before? Any thoughts? thanks

I've never seen a fender liner made out of aluminum, just abs plastic. Usually you could go to your local junkyard and find this part for a cheap price, but if you want to go the custom route as to prevent tire rubbing, by means go right ahead and keep us posted. As far as your tires making contact, chances are you're making contact with inner fenders and not the well liners, unless your hatch is extremely dropped.

the car really isnt that low as you can see

the main area where I know contact is being made is right at the top of the wheel well right at the fender edge (both of the plastic fastners are gone) So I was thinking of bending those tabs up and out of the way and fabing something in right above there.
honestly the rubbing isnt that bad I can't say I ever hear it hapening, the only time I can think that it is hapening is on a bad stretch of highway I travel about once a week, there are some nice dips and holes in the road

I guess I'll be the first to atempt it around here, so I'll keep everyone posted on how it goes.

I replaced mine this summer and they cost 60.00 bucks for both, so if you can fab some up for cheaper, go that route.

I'd not make them out of any sort of metal because if for some reason they get ripped out you'll probably cut a tire and/or damage a fender.

I think they are plastic for a reason.

What I would do is make sure you buy all of the clips and screws and make sure they are in place.

Just about every custom car (and pre 80's car) has metal wheel wells...

"tubbing" out a car (cutting away floor pans/body in order to clear HUGE slicks on a tube chassis drag car.) derived it's name from people using cut in have steel "tubs", one per side.

Using metal would be fine.

just make sure it's formed well and mounted properly

Here's a link to a VERY good write up on how to "tub out" a car... if you read through it it will give you a VERY clear idea on how to do just the wheel well liners for your own car.

I took mine out. they were getting torn up and they were old. I don't think there's anything wrong with not having them, unless you have a cold air intake. (tires could fling a lot of **** on to the filter)

u want to keep the fender liner is so if u ever get caught u have something between your filter and the water. your CAI will get plenty of air. leave the linner in there!!!!

No. I have an iceman intake... it can be either CAI or SR. I removed the screw that mounts the pass. side of the bumper to the fender so I could take it in and out (used to switch it everytime it rained (stopped doing so 1 year or so ago without ANY problems), One time I left the fender lining bulged out so when I drove it for a little bit (like .3 mi.) the tires wore a hole in the lining... Now the tires spit all sorts of crap RIGHT AT the intake filter... it's not the biggest deal in the world but it's gotten so dirty at this point I need to buy a whole new filter...

Pointbeing...

DO NOT all togeher remove the fenderliner... It's there for a reason... to keep out water, dirt, and debri; in order to protect your car... no matter how good you spray down the wheel wells... you WILL get rust unless you live in AZ or something... even then I'd imagine all the dust/sand spraying off the wheels would strip the paint off the inside of the fender/frame after a while.... over all just not a good idea.

As mentioned the liners can be had at a junkyard for probobly next to nothing if you take them out yourself. and although it CERTAINLY requires some SERIOUS skill... you can make them out of metal for cheap.

Not to mention they're available directly from honda-automotive for... like 30 bucks....

$5 bucks at the junkyard. Im guessing that either you have spring sag now or you just hit the wells when incountering bumps. Metal is no good IMO opinion unless its thick cause if for any reason a tear arises your pretty Falkens go bye bye.

I could just put in stock liners back in, but I would be back in the same situation that I am now within a few months. So by fabing my own up and out of the way I am hoping that I solve the problem rather then just bandaiding it for a few months

as for leaving them out, i'm just not going to do that, I don't have the cai to worry about there, but the balests for my hids are there and I dont think they will like crap being slung at them

I'm going to take a closer look under there tomorow and get a better idea at what i'm going to need to do. Honestly I feel that I am very good at fabracating and I love the challenge and to see the finished project in the end, for example some of you may remember my door panels

I will defintaly take pics and do a how to if it works out well enough

First of all, Take your caps lock off please.

My falkens are 205-50 15s my winter tires are 195-50 15s i believe, so they are the correct tires for this application. They probally look big because Falken Azenths seem to run a bit large compaired to other tires of the same size.

If you run 205/50/15's in the summer you should be on 195/60/15's in the winter... you need a higher percentage of the smaller width to get the same sidewall height... not the biggest deal but you're speedo will be a little off from summer to winter....

As far as the fenderliners are concerned.... it's a LOT more of a project than just re-wrapping your doorliner. It's creating a metal liner that wasn't there before. Not just glueing new fabric on a pre-molded piece...

If you read the link a provided you'll get a good idea of how difficult it will be.

Do you weld?

Sorry my bad they are 195/60/15s I was just too lazy to go out in the cold to check them.

Those door panels were not just re wraped, I cut them out and remolded them with fiberglass to fit around the integra dash. So it was a few days of molding and layering the glass to get it smooth.

I did take a look at the link and I dont think I will be going that far with it, My plan right now, and granted I have not taken a real close look at it yet, Is to use aluminum and cut it and bend it to fit and look at attatching it with rivets maybe, so that If it does have to be removed in the future I could drill them out if needed. With it being so cold right now I will probally wait a week or so till I can snag some garage space to take a stab at it.

And yes I do weld
