Oil dipstick tube removal. Please help!
Hi,
Replacing the timing belt on my 2000 Civic DX (D16Y7). You'd think the toughest part would be the crank pulley...no, that was easy. Way harder is removing the stupid oil dipstick tube. This is only to get to one last bolt holding the lower timing belt cover. 2 options here : Use some magical tool that can get to the bolt in a ridiculously tight space or remove the tube.
I tried pulling on it, rotating it with pliers, hitting under the bottom flange with a really small screwdriver. Nothing works and I don't want to get mad with it and break something. I don't get why I can't find any tip about this in the manual, or in the 100's of timing belt write-ups, or vids on youtube. Does everyone else just yank it out with one hand?
Thanks

It should just pull up and out. The only thing holding it in at the bottom is the now petrified O-ring where the tube goes into the hole at the bottom.
Give it a twist and a yank.

There is actually a small bolt down at the bottom of the dipstick tube, holding it in place. Once that it loosened, the dipstick tube will slide right out. Hopefully OP didn't follow the rest of the advice here, SMH.

I think we were going on the assumption that OP had removed all related fasteners and was still having trouble extracting the tube.

Seeing how the thread has gone so far, I'll assume the power steering pump is still in place. Unbolt the pump, detach the power steering reservoir from it's bracket, and move it over to the side. That'll give you more wiggle room for your hands and the tube.

Months later...!! I just realised I'm not getting email notifications of anyone's replies. Thanks everyone. No bolt involved actually (Y7). Just to help anyone with the same problem in the future : some tubes are a bitch… I used a thin kitesurfing line, tied a loop under the flange at the end of the tube, tied the other end to block of wood and used both hands to yank it out.
