also another sensor on the back of the gsr its underneath the intake manifold its black. and its attached to something on the back of the block

black sensor on the top of the stock gsr intake manifold?

knock sensors..can be black or green..most of them ive seen are green..they are usually 1 wire sensors
http://www.ff-squad.com/tech/sensors/ks.jpg

underneath the stock gsr IM should be a black box looking thing with a 2 wire plug.. that is your IAB...

the black sensor on top of the IM that your talking about could be the Purge Control sol.

heres a pic of the d16z6 with its harness on it (the harness im using for the gsr)

the sensor with the red circle is?

the sensor with the green circle is EVAP purge control: correct? where does that go on the gsr???

the blue circle is the IACV and that goes on the IACV of the gsr. yea thats an idiot question but have 2 second check my self

now here is a pic of the gsr with its stock gsr harness

now the iacv is in the red circle and is the same sensor has the blue circle in d1z6 pic

the white is the tps which is in the same position on the z6

the blue is the map which is in the same position on the z6

GREEN CIRCLE??? what sensor is that? 2 wire? is that the same sensor as the red circled one in the z6 pic?

i have some pics of the harness next

in the first pic:

Red circle - Kinda hard to tell but might be Intake Air Temp (IAT)

2nd pic
Green circle - IAT (intake air temp)
Blue circle MAP sensor
White circle - TPS
Red circle - IACV

find where the IAT plug for which ever harness your using and plug that into the red circle on the gsr IM

OBD1 gsr IM doesnt have a EVAP purge sol

The sensor you have question marks around is the IAT intake air temp sensor. You should find that same sensor on one of the runners on the d series motor. In the other picture of the d16, the sensor on the block there is either knock or the fan temp sensor. I cant tell from that picture. Defiantly double check that your sensors are wired correctly before you try to turn the car on. post more pictures of things you want identified.

i dont think that the obd1 gsr have Evap purge so dont worry about it...tape up that plug and leave it hanging..

your secondaries butterfly AKA IAB is the black box looking thing tucked up the GSR IM..its a 2 wire sensor, 1 goes to a17 and the other goes to ground

ok well i found this pic so thats why i was wondering about the EVAP

so it shows that theres evap on the firewall but the sensor is on the top of the intake manifold

heres some more pics of my motor and it doesnt have that evap like it shows in that diagram above

so is the diagram not right?

you said you keep thinking about jdm gsr? thats what i have a obd1 jdm gsr. so that first diagram you posted would be it if anything. ill have to look tomorow on the firewall and see if its there

where would the sensor be in that obd1 diagram?

ok thanks. so in this situation i do what? leave the sensor hang?

heres some current pics from about 2 hrs ago

this first pic is of the knock sensor striped, saudered, shrinked and taped up and the iab sensor is in the pic before the wiring ( iab goes to a17 and ground correct?)

next is a pic of the two sensors that are left unplugged on the z6 harness on the gsr motor. still havent figured out the evap??? but the iat is shown in the following picture on the d16z6 motor.

pic of iat connected on z6

next is a pic of the IAT getting extended to reach the top of the intake manifold. striped, saudered, shrinked and getting ready for tape

back of the intake manifold while im extendiing the IAT

completion of the extended IAT

next is a pic of the IAB sensor off the gsr harness striped getting read for a ground and a wire to run to A17.

here is a pic of the IAB with the ground and the wire ready to run to A17

heres a pic of the d3 pin and the a17 pin

does all of this seem right? anything wrong? all sensors look ok?

any info? help? suggestions?

pic of the car this work is for

ok so all looks good? the evap i guess ill let chill and hang.

now for some new questions.

timing belt and waterpump? just bought brand new today

i read two threads about doing this but theres a couple things im not sure of.

what do i do if the cam gears up arrows arent facing up? how would i move them?

also removing the crank bolt and crank pulley? can i do with an impact? how would i line the tdc lines on the crank and block? put the bolt in and turn?

im worried about going out of timing!!!!!!!!!!!

so as long as (when im ready to pull the crank pulley and the timing belt off) the cam gears have the arrows facing up( what if they are not how to move them) and the cranks tdc lines are lined up i should be ok with timing?

as far as once the belt is on but not tension'd up. i heard about puting the crank bolt and pulley back on and cranking it counterclockwise 3 teeth back or something and then tighting the tensioner?

sorry about all these question

big thanks to ekb16

and anyone else who helps

turn the engine until the white mark on the crank pulley lines up with the arrow...when thats lined up the arrows on the cam gears should be pointing up...thats its ok to take off the crank pulley..

you can take off the crank pulley with the impact gun if your gun is strong enough..if not your going to need to find a way to hold the crank from turning and bust the bolt with a long *** breaker bar..

after you put everything back together including the timing belt, turn the motor by hand over 3-4x and check the tension on the belt

so is there a mark on the crank pulley and a mark on the block that im matching up and when that is the arrows on the cam gears should be facing up.

my bad im just having a hard understanding im trying to get all the info i can NOT to mess this timing up.

so with the valve cover off and the top timing belt cover off whats the next step?

look to see if arrows are facing up? if not look for what and do what?

once the arrows are up take off the crank bolt? the crank wont spin while doing this?????????????????

this should help you with your timing belt questions...its the same process...just use your arrows on the cam gear
