OBD II emissions question
I have a 99 EK1... and do not have a catalytic converter. What is the best way to pass emissions? I have a test pipe and would like to keep it.

Re: OBD II emissions question (secondhandloser)
lol thats a terrible answer. I do have a rear o2 sensor "bung" that offests the o2 sensor about 1 1/2 inch from the test pipe.

What's an EK1?
To answer though, you can try looking into an O2 sensor simulator...or just get a catalytic converter.

Re: OBD II emissions question (EE_Chris)
EK1 is the chassie code for my car.
I'm not sure yet what I will do. I did look into simulators and the offset off the test pipe is what most people said to do. I did it and it seems to be working but I am not sure if it will pass emissions.

I know of the EM1 (99-00 Si) and the EJ's (96-00 Cx/Dx/Ex/Lx/Hx). So what is an 99 EK1?
If you're trying to pass OBDII emissions and your 'fix' hasn't yet produced a CEL after driving for a couple days in varying conditions, then it'll probably be alright.

Re: OBD II emissions question (EE_Chris)
EK is the chassie code. You can also say EM1. It is a 99' Si EK coupe.
My fix hasnt thrown a CEL after about a month of driving, except when the wires on the top of the o2 sensor rub against the top of the chassie. This is only because of the reduced space between the o2 sensor and the bottom of the chassie because of the spacer piece. But now it's protected and doesnt rub, so the CEL stays off.

If EK is the chassis code, how can you also say it's an EM1? An EM1 is its own chassis. Within the first couple of letters on the VIN, if it's an EM1, you'll see EM1 right there.
So what does yours say?
If you've been driving for over a month now, without resetting the ECU, then you should certainly be able to pass emissions.

Its an EK coupe with a chassie code of EM1, but well just say a 99' Si.
But after I put the spacer in there it hasnt thrown the CEL. Well see if I pass... hopefully. Thanks for the help though

There's no such thing as an EK coupe anywhere in the world. They don't exist. Every single 6th-gen Coupe world-wide is an EJ or EM. Stop spouting this crap about having an EK1.
EK1's are sedans and hatchbacks that come with D16Y4's (which are a European version of a D16Y7)... other than the German EK1, which comes with a D16Y5 CVT.
As for emissions, chances are you won't pass the sniffer portion without a catalytic converter. Your NOX will be way high. Just get a cat, install it, get emissions checked, and take it back off, plain and simple.

ROFL
You have an EM1 Shawty. You're not going to pass any smog test without a catalytic converter, bottom line.

Re: OBD II emissions question (ek forever guy)
haha. It will pass im sure. Its an OBD II so all they do is plug up to the computer and thats it. If theres no CEL it wont alert them and the ofset allows the o2 sensor to read, but not bad emissions.

As long as you don't have a sniffer, and you're not throwing a catalytic degradation code then your fine.

Re: OBD II emissions question (Eran)
I dont think they do the sniffer on an OBD II vehicle. And by the way, I know the chassie code is EM1 but EK is in the Vin number.

Re: OBD II emissions question (ek forever guy)
EK is NOT in the VIN, give it up.
Most OBD2 emissions programs scan the ecu for fault codes, and check the monitors. If any monitors are not ready or unable to be read, it defaults to the sniffer test. Even if you pass the sniffer test, you may still fail the emissions test if more than 2 monitors are unable to be read (IIRC).

You're a ******* moron. Have you ever even looked at your VIN?
Here's a typical EM1 VIN:
1HG<FONT COLOR="red">EM1</FONT>156XL095216
That's your chassis code right there. Not EK1. Not EK. Not EJ. Not EG. Not EN, not MB, not EH ....
No, you have an EM1.

Why would his EM1 have a VIN with EJ in it?
