Default No vin on dash

Got a 92 bubble and the title matches the other vins but there is not plate on the dash due to the dash being swapped. I don't know what to do. I don't wanna get pulled over and be asked 1000 questions and have the car impounded bc no vin plate. What should I do? I live in New York btw

You tell them the situation and they tell you what needs to be done. I know California blue tags stuff like that. Other places like here, it doesn't matter, cops don't check VINs.

Getting the info straight from the agency that's going to allow this car to be registered. How's that?

If we tell you not to worry about it and you follow that advice and turn around and it's incorrect, that would be an incredible waste of time would it not?

If the car is properly regestered, you should not have anything to worry about. Call the DMV and get something figured out. Me, personally, I would never even purchase a car unless all questions like that were answered. That is a pretty important thing, having the VIN attached in the proper place. Good luck.

Something is fishy here anyway, who doesn't know who to call to get a VIN# question answered? You shoulda asked before or while you were regestering the car. If you were the one who swapped the dash, why didn't you just swap the VIN plates?

Other vins located on the car? you should be fine... The police will be able to check other locations as well to verify the VIN.. Of course... still call the DMV as grumble said.

How would they know? I've registered in person without having the car with me. Even when I have the car they don't come outside to look, maybe other places are different?

I could have sworn that these all need to be in place for inspection purposes. I tell you one thing. If a meter maid comes along and starts to write up a ticket one of the first things they look for is that VIN tag.

They don't check here, when you get the safety inspection done they just look at the registration or the insurance card to get the VIN since it's a lot easier to read.

We don't have parking meters in Miramichi so I can't comment on that one. I did get a ticket a few years back for being parked in a no parking zone though and I don't recall a VIN. What happens when the VIN is covered with papers?

I don't recall. I haven't lived in NY is decades. I have a cousin that was a meter man back then and I used to get all the stories.

if the other vin numbers on the car are correct, it should be simple to get this fixed, it's not illegal to change a dash, I'll bet what happened is someone changed the dash, realized they had forgotten to put the original vin plate back on and said **** it, im not yanking the dash again. A lot of places if you buy something like a dash from a scrap yard, they are required to remove the old vin tag, sometimes they do it anyway just to avoid issues

i know in delaware you have to contact your local dmv and they will require the car to go through theft recovery where they check out the vins on the car and give it a background check before they register it. call your local DMV and they will be able to point you in the right direction after you explain to them the situation.

Good news man!

I forgot that some states are different. But it's good to hear all checks out for you.

As for where I live (Kansas), they don't need to inspect the VIN's to register the vehicle either.

My hatch doesn't have a dash VIN. The state of California affixed a new VIN on the door pillar. I haven't had any issues.

Also Kansas does do VIN inspections if the car is coming from out of state.
