no fuel coming through fuel-in line when priming fuel pump
my car (1994 dx hatch, with d16y8 engine) has been out of commission for a while, here is a thread discussing other possible sources that i have been trying to investigate.
but i think i may have found the culprit -- the fuel pump (or line). previously, i thought i confirmed that the engine was getting fuel because i could smell fuel on the end of the spark plug cable. also, the fuel filter was full of fuel when i removed it. however, the day after i removed the filter, i had someone turn the ignition to Start, to see if there was fuel coming through the line as the pump primed (it has always made the humming noise). but after 5 attempts, there was no fuel coming out of the line that goes into the filter.
is there a possible reason for this other than something faulty with the fuel pump or fuel line? i'm in desperate need of finding out what the problem is and it would be a major relief to know that i have narrowed down the possibilities to a few certain things.

look for any leaks, look for any kinks in the hardline of the fuel, check the fittings at the fuel pumps.

thanks for all the responses, i really appreciate it.
what would i be able to access from under the rear seat? i see 2 or 3 wires coming from the fuel pump, would i be able to check anything out by removing the screws that are there?
or am i going to have to get under the vehicle? my jack stands don't even fit under my car when jacked up to the max haha.
edit: i found a write-up on accessing the fuel pump from under the rear seats. so i guess i can check the fittings from there but to actually inspect the line thoroughly i'm gonna have to get under the car.

Disconnect the fuel line at the fuel filter and at the fuel pump. Can you blow air through one end of the fuel line without any resistance?

there isn't a surplus of fuel in the tank. i think the gauge shows a little under a quarter, maybe even an 1/8th or less.
i can feel air go through the fuel filter when i blow through one end. the pump primes when ignition is turned to start. yet no fuel comes out of the fuel-in line that i disconnected from the fuel filter.

I can't seem to get both the lines removed from the fuel pump. It's really dirty and the top of the fuel pump, I guess the "locking plate," is rusted to hell.
The hose that is held on by a clamp isn't budging even though I slid the clamp down. Don't want to break anything by forcing it. I have the banjo bolt line off, and apparently that's the fuel feed line. That means that it's the hose that runs to the fuel filter, correct? So that's the line that should tell me whether or not I should focus on the line or the fuel pump, pending the "air test?"
