Default New owner 92 Civic!

Whats up people. Just bought a 1992 Honda civic Cx Hatchback. I been on this site forever but i didnt own a honda lol. just got out of the subaru scene (2004 wrx). i have some questions...how come it says in the vin # EH instead of EG?

but yeah...my first mod is Engine swap...this thing has no power what so ever! ( ITS STOCK EXCEPT FOR INTAKE).

i want to do a mini-me swap..what would i need to do this? the car has a d15b8 engine in the car now.

thanks
Anthony

heres what i would do if I were NEW to honda-tech.
1) read rules
2) read through FAQ
3) use search function
4) search on google...

minime swap has been done to death with plenty of write ups on it.
You can't just post and expect people to give you the answers all the time.

Note: doing your own reasearch greatly advances your general knowledge base and should not be discounted by taking the short cut route.

i beg to differ... i know plenty of people who've done mini-me swaps that are by all means not poor... I think mini-me swap is a perfect swap for a beginner honda enthusiast, it basically involves all the bigger jobs and just sums them up into one smaller, more achievable goal... you learn mechanics, you learn timing, torquing, adjusting, etc... so yeah, definitely think you might want to restate that one, cuz I know a lot of folks would disagree with you as well... especially some of the older honda tech vet's on here, who started with mini-me's and single cams, an still have some of those same mini-me's and single cams to this day...

first off, welcome to the honda scene bro, though it must be rough going from a WRX to a slow CX hatch lol. second, the vin says "EH" because that is the model of your particular car even though it's thought of as an "EG". In general all 92-95 civics are referred to as EG's.

and as far as power, yea a d15 paired with the cx tranny=slow feeling lol. Do not do a mini-me swap especially if you've never built one before. If you are on a budget just get a D16z6 with harness and p28 ecu. try to get the z6 tranny too, since it's not geared as high

Technically, 92-95 Civic hatches made for the Japanese market are EGs, USDM hatches are EHs, but everyone calls them EGs because it's cooler.

Sorry, my tone was kind of harsh I guess. You really think he is going to swap the head and be happy? I just mean for what it is, its really not much, In my opinion. Not really for poor, but for people who want to spend money for no reason.

Quote from the minime faq
https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/faq-d15-sohc-vtec-mini-me-massive-write-up-56k-goodbye-554053/
I spent about $550 total when all was said and done. I paid $200 for the head, and $85 for the ECU. Random stuff kept adding up after that. $550 is comparable to a full Z6 swap, but remember this included a new timing belt, head gasket, etc.
save your money and swap that. Especially if you swap for a jdm engine. Lower miles.

When i was looking into stuff for my civic, i thought heavily about it, but i went h22.

Eh i lost interest just now.

haha yeah man tell me about it lol. i had some goodies on the wrx. Different turbo set-up, Vf39 out of the STI. exhaust, all the supporting mods. ANYWAYS....yeah the civic is great on gas though. most likely im just going to get a d15b swap. my friend got one for 450. i rode in his car the other day and its quick for now. maybe in a few months ill go b-16.

thanks for the feedback.

why not just swap once and put some quality parts in the first time?

imo...the mini me swap isnt going to make up for the wrx.....i would say go with a b series as in b16, ls, or b20 if your just starting to get into it...and they all come with different pros and cons...read into it and u will learn more...

maybe later on get into the b20/vtec, ls/vtec, gsr, and h22....these are the more powerful motors out there if you really wanna get power out of your car.....

k series is another level but you need money and experience for that lol...

just research and get what you want...in the end its your personal choice..goodluck

if you REALLY plan on doing the B16 in just a few months don't even bother doing the mini-me or D15 swap and just save for the B16... you can find them for pretty cheap these days.

not trying to knock your plans or anything, but I personally couldn't justify the money (no matter how cheap it is) for the motor (D15) and the cost of install, since it sounds like your planning on paying a shop for the install rather than doing it yourself.

that's just my .02 cents though.

goodluck though man !

imo you should look into getting an ls bottom end, im sure you could find one cheaper than dirt and throw any dohc vtec head on it from 92+ GSR or B16, i dont know your budget but thats what i would do, or just swap in an ls for now for purty cheap, itll make a hell of a difference from that doggy 1.5 and you can decide where you wanna go from there ie ls/vtec or turbo...good luck with it man and welcome to the wonderful world of honda

thanks for all the feedback people.
well as far as budget. i really dont want to spend more than maybe 600-1000 bucks.
this is the thing i do not understand, i always see people SELLING BLOCKS for dirt cheap. but is that just the bottom end? i would also need to buy a head correct? and lol when people say DIZZY are they referring to a distributor? LOL.

thanks.

Depends. Short block refers to bottom end only. Long block would be referring to head and block. if your budget is 1000 or less your probably not going turbo or b series, personally id go for the jdm d15b, 130hp and fairly high compression, possibly the "peppiest" stock d series block and should stay nicely in your price range

SOHC FTW
