Ok guys, here's the deal. I had a 96 ex coupe with a turbo b18 in it, car ran perfect, the motor never even went past the 1/2 way mark on the temp gauge. Now I recently purchased a 92 dx hatch, and that thing would over heat all the time. I recently put the turbo b18 in the 92 hatch alont with a koyo radiator, and a fal fan. To my suprise, the motor overheats!! I know it isnt the motor that is causing me problems because it never overheated while in my coupe. Everything is fine, the radiator fan turns on. Could there be something wrong with the dx hatch it self, like a fuse or a bad wire? any help is appreciated.

Could be the gauge reading wrong? Maybe the owner before you took the needle off and so it reads wrong. (I hate to say it, but I've done it before )

If not that, then look at changing the thermostat and all that good stuff... seem's odd that with a different engine/cooling system it would still overheat. It must be the temp gauge.

I doubt it is the gauge, because when the single cam would over heat, the guage would climb all the way to the top, and if I continued driving it with the guage to the top, the check engine light would go on.

i'd try replacing the thermostat.is the fan working?it shouldn't overheat while cruising even with the fan not working,though.

maybe your thermostat is working... hmmmm... this was a quick reply .. i need to do some thinking.. but im leaning toward the thermostat

The fan works fine, the thing that gets me is the motor never overheated when it was in the coupe. It never even raise passed the 1/2 way point on the temp guage. I'm pretty sure the thermo is good, but I will check it anyways.

well,the only stock components left in the new car is the electrical wiring and gauge cluster-you've replaced the radiator and motor.either it's an electrical problem with the gauge reading wrong,or something has failed on your motor-themostat or water pump.i doubt your new radiator is the problem.

you might have air bubbles in the coolant system. try to bleed your coolant system...

No leaks at all, both hoses for the radiator feel like they are the same temp. So I guess that means we could knock off the thermostat. If it's the guage reading wrong, which I doubt, I was going to buy a new cluster anyways. thanks guys

Sorry for the dp, but I just remembered that when I first drove the car after putting everything in, after I brought the car home, the negative battery terminal wasn't even on the battery. I highly doubt that would cause it to over heat, but hey, I'm trying to save money

as stated above-did you get all the air out when you did the swap?
also,when it iverheats,does it show any signs of overheating?-like boiling over or anything?

THe car doesnt show any signs of over heating, and I had the radiator and fan installed by autolink. Dr. charles worked on it so I'm sure he did it right. I'm beginning to think that it might be the guage, so I'll wait until I change the cluster.

it could be the gauge, but you can just feel the hoses and see if the coolant is circulating... do you have the heater core hooked up? maybe theres a blockage in that?? not likely but that is also part of the coolent system and remained from the old setup.. just another suggestion..

edit.. just re-read the thread and it doesnt seem like you're even overheating... starting to lean towards the gauge now.. lol sorry

Yeah... might just be the sending unit (for the gauge) thats on the block.

Ok guys, after 30 minutes of driving on the freeway, the car started to overheat very slowly. I just turned the heater on, and the temp went down.

I would check the wiring from the temp sensor (that is located on the same part where the thermostat is) to the fan maybe you have a short somewhere in between.
